My Mom let me borrow her "Dazed and Confused" movie soundtrack. Features some pretty cool songs, old of course. I was listening and although technology has greatly grown and advanced. I have no doubt in my mind (atleast on my system) that old recordings were more thought out than new ones are.

The first song, is pretty cool. It has a pretty high pitched tone singer and back up singers. The high end is slightly harsh, but the soundstage is well worked up, everything is seperated and laid out. The bass is well pronounced and clean, not boomy or over-exagerated. The instruments sound real.

Maybe it just goes with the Rock genre or something. But I am beginning to think in overall terms of thought that goes into recordings has to be passed to the older recordings.

You're absolutely right. There are plenty of great old recordings out there. I believe the oldest recording I have is from 1957. It's mono but it has great dynamics and captured the amazing performance properly. My oldest stereo recording is from the 60's. They also sound super.
