How the hell did he get those seats?

Here's one for you guys.
When tickets for a concert go on sale, how is it possible to score those damn good seats??
I'm very aware that most blocks of primo seats are bought up by brokers and such...but how do they do that? Is it a contract deal with Ticketmaster or maybe the venue holding the show?

I have also heard that most bands will have a "rider" in the contract that they are intitled to 50 seats row ___ to row ___. These ticket blocks are to be used at the bands management discression. Most times (of course this is speculation) those blocks of seats will be sold the day of the show. Anyone heard of this?
Anyway...here is my delema.
My wife's favorite band in this big ass world of music is Rush. Not only are they touring this year, they also happen to be playing at a venue she has always dreamed of seeing her favorite musicians play.
This Saturday, tickets go on sale for Rush at Red Rocks near Denver. ANYONE out there know ANY tricks of the trade they could share in hopes of scoring two primo seats at this venue?

sorry i don't have any tricks up my sleeve to offer you.. i was wondering the same thing.. I bet some of the tickets are saved for promotions.. to llike radio stations to give them away and such.

I've only been luck one time. I got 4th row seats to see BareNaked Ladies once. they are awesome.

What i do. like most people is stand in line at a place that is off the beaten path.. so you don't have to fight the crowd for tix. and i'm also on the phone at the same time..

Your best bet is to try the internet and TRY for the seats. You'll see what you'll be getting before you pay. If you don't like them, don't buy them and then you'll just have to pay through the nose on ebay. :(

Lately, I've been hearing about fan club pre-sales. Basically, fan club members are given a head start to obtain tickets before they are released to the general public.

Also, sometimes tickets are sold on-line before they are sold at the box office. Contenential Airlines Arena in NJ does that alot whereby tickets are available throught TicketMaster on-line/or at outlets on a Saturday and at the box office the following Monday.

I know this doesn't answer you original question but does offer a little FYI.

All I know is that "back in the day (mid 70's)" we use to camp out for 2-3 days at the box office/ticket outlet prior to tickets going on sale.

I bought Neil Young tickets online at Ticketmaster. They went on sale at 10 am
I looged in at like 5 of and began the process. I scored 6th row floor center stage.

Yes is celebrating their 35th anniversery trhis year. At YESWORLD.COM the band offered up a presale for tickets the day before Ticketmaster got them. I scored 1st row center stage for Mohegan sun.

I think your best bet is to keep on top of who's touring, find fan sites and forums for insider info and keep track of when tickets go on sale. Be at your computer at that time and have at those pesky 0's and 1's

When I went to Red Rocks in 1999 to see Dan Fogelberg, there was general admission seating (first come first served) and reserved seating. We scored 12th row center. Just get there EARLY. Bring a poncho (really!). Great acoustics and very steep. Check out the Coors factory tour in nearby Golden (like 6 miles)before the show! Good Luck!

We sell Concert tickets at our Video Store (legally through Ticket Master).

We get free tickets all the time. And if we wanted, could buy the best seats available before anyone else. So you can just figure, most of the time the ones with the good seats are the ones selling the tickets.

It's over and done with. Got on ticket****er and after loggin in and being spit out **** seats for 15 minutes, I was finally able to score two seats in the 21st row.
All in all. we are just happy to get what we did and will be excited for the road trim come this June.
