Speaker placements!!!! HELP

Hi, I'm getting closer and closer to finally getting my system after a 3 months of researching and listening. The room dimension is gonna be 13ft by 14ft and about 10ft high. The room is near square, which I read are the ideal dimensions for a theater room. I can either go with a 50 or 43 inch plasma. I have 2 options
1: if i go with the 43 inch, I'll be sitting at about 6 ft away from the plasma and I can have the rear speakers at about 7 to 6 ft behind the sofa. The side surrounds will be on the wall closest to either end of the sofa as close to the ear level as possible.
2: if i go with a 50 inch plasma, I'll be sitting about 9 to 10 ft away from the tv and leaving me alot closer to the rear surrounds(the rear surrounds will be about 2 to 3 ft. behind the sofa)
With option 2, isnt that a little too close to the rear surrounds? Given my room dimension, the sounds stage will be much more open with option 1, especially in the rear surrounds, right? What would you guys do? Please help me out.

I like option numero 2. for me.. option one brings you to close to the screen. I'm afraid.. your eyes will not be able to take in everything normally.

Option two would not be a problem for your rear surrounds.. i have mine very close to my sweet spot.. and they sound wonderful. but it does depend on what speakers you will be using for surrounds. if you're going to be close to them.. i'd suggest a bi pole/di pole pattern speaker. that will give you better rear surround diffusion.. direct radiating speakers.. may leave your rear surrounds.. going over your head.

I'd suggest a FXi5 or 50 for the surround.. if you haven't already got some.

Option two seems like the best distance and better soundstage. Don't worry two much about the distance from those rear surrounds. Just make sure you calibrate your speakers correctly.

It sounds like you'll have a 7.1 system. If so, first make sure your setup is good, then make sure your speaker levels are all set at the proper level (i.e., get yourself a decibel reader at RadioShack). I just set up a 7.1 system in my house this weekend. Believe me, when you've got the right system, the right setup, and the right calibrations, it will sound seemless. Option two seems to give you the best of everything. Good luck; I'm sure you're excited to get this thing going!

Option Two, in this case the bigger screen is worth it, I agree with the suggestion to use bipole/dipole for your back surround.:cool:
