Is tinning the wires recommended on all connections?
Also, how can I best determine speaker placement with angled walls, etc.? Thanx
I apply a hint of solder to the tip of bare speaker wire to prevent crimping (When the wire becomes a jumbled mess). It also makes life easier when hooking the wire up to various terminals. I wouldnt recommend it for anything else, other than speaker wire.
Placement with angled walls....Are you using in-walls, are you mounting speakers, or just trying to work a system around the room?

Never have tinned speaker wire. Don't believe it's necessary...
Need a pic or a room description before I disagree with ATC on the 2nd question...:D

Basically my room has an entertainment niche and I ran conduit in the walls before the drywall.

OK, but the question is where are the angled walls, etc., vs. where you'd like to place the speakers?

Basically my room has an entertainment niche and I ran conduit in the walls before the drywall so I could run sats on the front and back walls/ceiling.

Image might have been a little too big there, sparky...
Feels like I'm peeking in through the blinds... not that I've ever done that...

Well I was going to post some pictures here, and try it like SID the KID has said he was doing. The is a large picture and some software here on this forum was compressing the picture that he post's....
As this picture is a large pixel / large memory size and the broad killed the picture in short.
O well that kills that question in my mind...

Sorry I had a few tech difficulties. Let me try that pic again. Got a kick out of your comment about the blinds...

Dude.....
Talk about placement challenged.....
I dont know how you could actually go around that...
Bookshelves, swivel(sp) brackets?
Dang......
Disney,
I use PSP, JPG - nothing special bro! - here is what the camera can do with good light ;) http://www.alektra.com/00_00035.JPG

Man, you have a couple of options here...
1) Place the bookshelfs on the straight wall directly above the TV...............................
2) Place a bookshelf on the slanted wall on a swivel bracket ahead of the tv, then another bookshelf on the straight wall, invest in a SPL meter and go happy......
That is a REALLY challenging room.......
How far away are you seated from the main stage? More options could be there if you are pretty far back...

I will be sitting about 12 feet and I already have Polk satillites
that I thought I would mount on the ceiling/wall.

You could definetely work with the ceiling....
Since you are about 12 feet back...
I would mount one at the beginning (opposite side of tv) on the slanted wall, then the right side of the door frame at the ceiling and angle at your main listening positions. *YOU WILL NEED A SPL METER*.
That is my take. Hope that helps.
Are you mounting the center channel on the ceiling also? or above the tv?

Vr3, thanks for the input I'll definately check into the
SPL meter. I found some swivel mounts that I think I can make work. Probably will put the center on top of the TV.
Tour,
Of course its not necessary, but it does make life easier! :)
Fast,
Wow - difficult placement...
Your TV is facing another direction, where are you going to be in proportion to the TV? Is your seating position facing the fireplace?
If so, I would do this:
Mount one speaker mid-way up to the right of your rack - have it face your listening position.
Do the same on the opposite side at an equal distance, at the same height.
As for the center sat.. I would just set it on top of the fireplace and hope it works. If not, I would put it just a tad below where the left and right speakers are.
You should be good..

If that fireplace is for real, it is going to compromise the left channel placement.
Even if it didn't, with the wall at that angle I don't think in-walls will rotate far enough to center the image across the room and in front of the TV...
Very tough room there...
