Guys-

Wondering if any of the Sanus speaker stands on the polk store link are fillable (sand or lead)?
Do they do the job?

The Sanus stands recommended on the club shopping page seem to be 18" high. I'd recommend 24" stands to get the tweeters a little higher so they're at ear level. A problem with many speaker stands is the base plates get to be too small for larger bookshelf speakers the taller the stands get. The most stable stands I've found are from PartsExpress, and these can be filled:

High Mass Monitor Speaker Stands (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=240-744)

I've had a pair of them for a few years. Their dimensions and stability are perfect for RT55is.

I have my RT55is on the Sanus NF 18" stand and the tweeters are at a PERFECT height for my listening position. The are not fillable but they are very stable and look good too (IMO). I have not used the Parts Express Stands but I have heard good things about them. I would go with no more than 18" however. The height of the stand and the height of the speaker put the center of the tweeter at around 36" to 37" from the floor. Here is a picture of mine:

Looking good Shack.

Dayton sub looks bitchin', and so does you wiring at the wall plate.

Cheers,

Build a pair for less than 50 bucks!

I built my stands (http://www.angelfire.com/alt/tryrrthg/dynstand.jpg) based on this design (http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/stubby_e.html). My stands cost about 90 bucks because I used hard wood. if you used MDF the cost would be considerably less. They are rock solid when filled with sand, they probably weight around 50 or 60 pounds. With my speakers on they they weigh 75 to 85 pounds.

Your other option could be these stands (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&PartNumber=240-744&DID=7) from Parts Express. They are supposed to be rock solid and a great value. Those were my first choice before my DIY stands but the top plate was wider than my speakers.

Emlyn- excellant link, a very strong contender, they are heavy on their own,
and filled with sand?
I could get rid of the barbells.

Shack- very clean looking units, and definitely a bargain.

Tryrrthg- argh argh argh! Or should I call you Tim "the toolman" Taylor.
Excellant link. I liked your design even better.
You know, I've thought about doing this for some time. It is cool to make your own stuff.
Are your speakers attached to the stands? Or do they just sit on top?

My names Troy but you can call me Tim :D

Thanks for the compliments. My speakers just sit on the stands but they are attached using some re-usable adhisive puddy. It's that stuff you use to hang posters on your wall. It works great, my stands would fall over before my speakers would come off the base. Although my stands would have to be hit pretty hard to fall over.

The project was pretty easy and it's always great to make something yourself. The staining and sanding was a pain but it was worth it in the end, and they saved me about $200 off of the stands I wanted. It's also nice to make them youself so you can make them look exactly how you want them to.

Great looking stands and informative construction pix ... Good job.

Thanks!

Check out this website for stands...
http://www.racksandstands.com/asp/show_cat.asp?catid=6

You can get pretty nices ones for around $100 delivered....all different heights and most are loadable.
I'm going to be getting a pair for my Studio 40's but I'm just trying to decide what height I want.

trubluluc,

I have my 55's on these (filled with sand). For the money, these are first rate and they have excellent CS. I paid less for mine, e-mail them and see what they can do. I'll post a pic tonight.

I got mine off e-bay, for a great price. I looked all over, and these were by far the best value I found. I have been very happy with these stands.

I'm not sure how much they weight, but they are heavy duty metal, much better than the wood Sanus stands I looked at. E-mail them and they will get right back to you. They also have excellent CS!

Well, I just ordered a pair for my Studio 40's. I thought the website that I'd found was a great deal but this price is hard to beat....thanks, appreciate the link.

Both websites look like they have some nice stands....and the free shipping would have been great, but I already ordered the set from "Parts Express" $99. bones was a deal, but the $48. shipping kinda sucked.

anyway...

Dish Network. It has taken 4 months to get my 811 in, so I'm dying here! I want to ISF calibrate my TV next, and with a baby on the way, I'll have to slow down for a while.

Do your ever go to the Chief games? Maybe we could get together one Sunday after a game to jam a little, I usually have extra tickets .

Take care- Greg

WOW congrats on the baby... is that your first?

Oh YA on KC Football even though I'm a Pittsbugh boy KC Stadium puts out some serious dB's.:D and I have always been a Chiefs fan. Absolutely lets plan on that.

I have been meaning to do the ISF cal but just keep putting it off. Polkthug(Toby) was over last weekend and he's a vidio head and made some adjustments for me. I have to say it does look better but I just don't have an interest in really refining vidio the way it should be. Audio is enough.

On a slim chance have you ever ran into a dude named Jeff Tomlin? He is one of the finest people I have met and lives in Springfield.

Yes, our first child. I go between thrilled and freaked out ;-)

We will indeed plan a post-game get together!

His name does not sound familiar?

Have a good one, I'm calling it a night.

Have a great Easter!
