Properly wired PSW 202

I am new to the world of quality entertainment equipment. I recently purchased some Polk speakers and a Denon receiver. Currently, I have the subwoofer cable going into the left input on the sub. The directions say that I should get a Y connector to connect it to the left and right inputs on the sub. Is it necessary to have a Y splitter cable?

no, but it will play slightly louder with a y splitter.

Not nessicary though if you dont feel it is.
