I'm still wondering why Polk lets everyone get away with talking about all the other sub manufactorers on this forum.
I can't believe they let you guys push these SVS and HSU subs down everyone's throat. If the Polk subs are nothing to brag about, then there shouldn't be any talk about subs on this ClubPolk forum. Doesn't SVS and HSU have their own forums?
If they do, then that's where all this SVS and HSU stuff belongs.

It should give Polk a reason to improve their subs.

Well, an important part of putting together a good system is being realistic and objective about what works, and what doesn't. No speaker manufacturer is the end-all, be-all company for all products. Polk Audio make awesome main channel speakers that can stand against any in the business, regardless of price, as other companies do the same in their niche.

You'll find alot of folk's here (me being one of them) that don't currently own polk Audio's, but appreciate the value and quality of the line. Some of us are still contimplating going to Polk, too. I've owned 3 different models of Polk's in the past, and respect the build/technology involved.

I believe it is called free speech. Nobody is putting down Polk subs, they are simply acknowledging the fact that other subs are better.

But at the same time they are rating Polks regular speakers head and shoulders above everyone else. One not so great line out of several great ones is not that bad that Polk needs to get upset about it. They still come out ahead.

So would you rather have a forum that tells you what you can and can't talk about...

I actually think it's a rather generous gesture on Polk's behalf to let us pretty much talk about what we want, within reason of course...

We're all about (Polk included) making our systems sound the best they can, and if another sub does it instead of Polk, then that discussion belongs here...

Polk is pretty open minded.
They have our respect, and we have their speakers. I doubt that you will find a more loyal group of speaker owners.

Personally I own:

2 rt1000i
4 rt800i
1 cs1000p
3 cs400i
2 rt55i
2 rt35i
2 rt25i
2 fx500
2 LS f/x
2 psw450

and yes I just bought an SVS sub, and will most likely buy a second SVS sub.
The 450's were my first subs, and they still work well. But they don't compare to the SVS sub.

of course I may have to get something smaller....because my lady has informed me...that if I bring home one more pair of speakers,
I better find a set that will work in the doghouse,
because that's where I'll be living.

So long as there is no bashing occuring, I see it as only tiring, but not inherently wrong. Most of the members here own Polk speakers. The minority here /have/ owned Polk speakers at some point, and obviously respect them enough to stick around here. There are great subs out there, and right now, SVS is in the thick of the hype.

Its annoying as hell, but not wrong..

I own Athena mains...would I buy the Athena subwoofer? Hell no. SVS builds a better mouse trap, as far as I can see, and does it at a great price point.

I agree with you to some extent. At times this forum can seem like one big advertisement for SVS, which is inappropriate. New people to the forum are probably highly influenced by the amount of free press SVS gets on this forum, and it's certainly not the intent of the forum to market another competing company's products.

However, this is a Polk forum and nearly everyone agrees that Polk's strengths do not lie in its line of subwoofers. Polk's main customers (the CC variety) aren't necessarily complaining about the Polk subs, but those of us on the forum aren't typical customers. Most of us are audio enthusiasts, some of us are fanatics, and a few of us are just plain crazy as hell.

IMO, Polk's best subwoofer is the 505 which you can get delivered to your door, brand new from authorized dealers for 449-499 which includes shipping. I think thats a great deal for <500.

SV Subwoofers are in a different class. Their cheapest powered sub starts at around 549 plus shipping. They should be better.

I love my 505's, but I've also heard the more expensive SV's, and they are truly awesome. That's just the way it is.

We share all kinds of opinions and information here, which makes this a great forum.

To me that is what make this forum so great. You get a wide range of products and the best will get the most recognition. It just happens that Polk makes verry good products in all price ranges.

If the Polk subs are nothing to brag about, then there shouldn't be any talk about subs on this ClubPolk forum. Doesn't SVS and HSU have their own forums?

The Klipsch forum is the same way - chock full of SVS owners.

I've also heard the more expensive SV's, and they are truly awesome. That's just the way it is.

At one time, SVS was a pretty well kept secret, and I had already experienced what many others had not. I wanted others to experience and enjoy what I already had, so I passed the word and urged people to try that brand. To a person, they have all been thrilled and thankful for the recommendation.

Polk is to speakers, what SVS is to subwoofers IMO. I have yet to hear any line that can match Polk for the price. Indeed my Polks embarrass other speakers at 2X-3X the price. I will always have Polk in my system. Ditto Signal Cable - a HUGE find and a great value in cables thanks to Russ.

Now that the cat's out of the bag, SVS pretty much sells itself. Most of the subwoofer chatter on this forum is more related to sub owners (yes many SVS) trying to understand bass management, subwoofer theory, or get the most performance from their sub (whatever the brand).

I think another angle on this holds true as well. I'm a member of the "Honda Magna Riders" forum as well; and low and behold, 20% of the members don't even ride a Magna anymore--but they love to talk motorcycles and have made many friends on the Magna forum, so they stay. I've recently considered a Kawi ZRX1200R, but I'll still be logging into the Magna forum for a long time to come....

Audio-geeks love to talk audio, and this is a great place to do it. There's also killer deals in the Flea Market, and alot of good, respectable sellers there. There is also a wealth of information on this board with alot of folk's who are SERIOUS about their HT and 2 channel audio--its always great to be able to tap into others opinions on equipment that you can't get access to.

The 808 has been repackaged as the LSiW, which, last I heard, was still slated for the month. No sign of it yet though.

I'm glad to hear other opinions on other manufactures of stuff. This is the only place I go for info and help on my equipment (everyone is pretty helpful here, why go any where else). I love my Polks, but do have to say I am not all that impressed with my PSW350. Although I may upgrade to a 505, I may also go to another brand. Since the sub really doesn't have to "match" anything else, why not go somewhere else if there is something better?

If I didn't love the sound of Polks (and the quality tech support you get), I may have gone to one of those other Boards. But since they do sound so great, I will probably never go anywhere else.

Well, I don't talk about Polk or SVS subs.

I have been known to talk about the attributes of the Adire Audio 'Rava' sub with it's very accurate 'Shiva' driver.

But again, I have a set of Polk RTi70s as fronts and a set of 38s as rears.

Togather, these 5 speakers make for a good sounding 2 channel system when driven by a good quality amp.

the problem is the new high excurson subs are great but polk dont have them yet. they might make their own speakers and dont want to re equip the factory or the price of the better sub will rase the cost of their product out of the buyers price range.
