I had the MM12 hooked up to a C500.1 amp and it blew the speaker in less than a day.

I was wandering if the C500 monoblock amp. would be able two power two of the MM12's? Would it be even worth it?

actually, a 300.2 to each woofer would be a much better match. the monoblock would work, but wouldn't be as powerful. and for the love of phil, properly break in your subs before cranking them. there's been a lot about this recently, look around a little bit to learn how. and it takes longer than you'd think.

how are u running two subs off the same mono amp? are then in a series or parallel? either way changes the imp of the subs. might be the reason for whats going on. if they are run in parallel that will drop the impedance making the amp working harder and bringing about more distrtion, which cooks subs. i dont think running 2 subs off the same mono amp is such a good idea.

You're right cody... in fack most of kickers line and plenty of others have two hookups, but it's really a mono amp. designed to run two in parallel from the start. Besides, mono for subs is better, as you will not be wasting any power on sounds that cancel from right and left channels, the mono amp cancels them BEFORE powering them.

And Please break in your subs, shooting the parts off after a day is not a bad sub in most cases, just not allowing the parts to get used to moving first. and you can always extend the life of rubber parts with a little care from a pure furniture oil.

wouldnt it be easier on the amp to just get two seperate monos? wouldnt that give u more headroom to turn it up too? because things arent working as hard?

mmmmm.... you're right, technically. distortion and the like do go up as impedance drops, and yes, there will be additional headroom, and yes, the load on the amp is less, and yes, it does control the sub better - but all of these in very very small amounts. for extreme quality speakers, focals or somesuch, you may notice, but for subs its no deal.

technically, it would be easier on the amp to run at 4 ohms than at 2 ohms
but the amps are made to run at 2 ohms so it doesnt really matter
no it doesnt give you more headroom
headroom is how much more watts you have left over when your subs cant take anymore
ex: some sub can take 500 watts, you have a 600 watt amp
1 amp is easier to install than 2
2 amps looks cooler
if you have 1 amp, and it blows, youre shit out of luck
if you have 2 amps, chances are both will not crap out on you at the same time
ive had both 1 amp for 2 subs and 2 amps for 2 subs
and ive also blown the 1 amp for the 2 subs
ive also blown 1 of the 2 amps also
i must say it is VERY nice to still have one sub bumping than no subs at all
plus
2 channel amps are going to sound better than mono amps
just the way it is
another drawback though is that 2 channel amps draw more current than mono amps
i really cant say which setup that ive had that i like better
my next 2 sub set up will be powered by one amp though
mainly b/c its easier to set up and it draws less current
