DIG coax and analogue

Can I use both a dig coax from my DVD player and the analogue L/R as well. The reason is I don't like to reset the settings on my yammie when watch a dvd and listen to a cd in CD mode can I use both but one at a time ??

Yes, and the analog sounds much better for standard CD's than digital.

Can someone explain me why! ANALOG sounds better than DIGITAL COAX.

BTW, after reading this thread I finally hooked my 2-channel analog AR HT Pro series cable to my DVD to my RECEIVER and found something odd when I listen to ANALOG, it seems less louder than DIGITAL COAX. Why is that?

Doesn't the whole argument of digital vs. analogue depend on which component has the better DAC?

I think the analog is better because of fewer processing stages in other words bypassing DSP or just using DAC (DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERSION) process from DVD or CD player.

DIGITAL COAX must be doing something like this:

DAC->ADC->DAC

ANALOG: 1 stage processing
DIGITAL: 3 stage processing

If this is the case then I vote for ANALOG.

And analog cable.
This is one of those situations where a person must try for themselves. It depends on TOO many variables. I've heard more than once where the specs defy the logic.

Wouldn't, with digital coax, a raw digital signal be sent from the player to the receiver, which has its own DAC, and then does the one and only conversion?

i've tried both. analog and digital connectors. i honestly can't hear any difference. both sounded equally good to me.

You're right because when I switch to digital, PCM light shows on my receiver's OSD but nothing shows when I select Analog.

I compared both head to head and I found the digital is atleast 10db or more louder than analog which means it is strong and for each time I had to crank up the volume for analog but the difference in sound quality is none. My DVD player is 5 years old and my receiver is 5 months old. It makes sense to use new DAC on the receiver (digital) than the old one on my dvd player (analog)

I prefer and vote for DIGITAL.

All good points but the bottom line is which has a better DAC.WHich sounds better to you.

The DVD/CD player might have a better sounding DAC,or the Processor/Receiver might.

The quality of the cables used will make a difference in overall sound quality.

There isn't one better then the other.It's again which one sound better in ones system.

I perfer the sound quality of my Pioneer Elite dv47a's DAC's over the B&K avr307's.The Pioneer uses Logato link Pros which are there own and B&K uses Motorola.

I use high quality cable for digital and Analog connections.I use all Kimber Kable.

Just my two cents, I have a pioneer vsxd912 reciever and the all in one dvd player that costs 150 (too lazy to get up and check model number, I think it's 503a) coupled with rm6700's. I have some cheap monster thx certified cables (both for analog and optical.) There is no volume difference or sound difference between the two, my guess is that the dac in both my reciever and dvd player is probably the same. At any rate, this probably wasn't helpful, just wanted to throw in my experience.
