Polk Conversions?

I was reading another thread and started thinking...

I can think of 11 people off-hand that I have 'converted' to PolkAudio. By converted I don't mean forcing Polk on them, but merely 'showing them the light' as someone else put it... I've simply pointed out things they should be listening for and introduced them to Polk...

I mean it's not really that difficult a decision really. Think about where most people get their Polks, Circuit City or Fryz (at least here in Tx).

There's not really anything else in either store that gives Polk much competition. All you gotta know is what to listen for, then the decision is pretty easy and obvious for most people. The problem is that most people don't know waht to liston for, and that's why so many Bose sell...

I had a friend over last weekend listening to the Miles Davis Kind of Blue SACD (in stereo of course). He puased it in the middle of 'So What' and said 'man I can hear where the different sounds are actually coming from, like the drums are over there, but they sound farther back than the sax, and the trumpet is over there, and the bass over there'...I felt like a teacher whose student had graspbed the concept of fractions, that was cool. Two months ago this guy had some crappy Yamaha speakers and an AIWA receiver and now he has an Onkyo and some Polks and is identifying things like soundstage and imaging...

Anyway, just thought I'd share, anyone have similar stories?

That is cool when that happens. Now get them in front of some SDA's.....


Pretty soon the guy's living on ramen noodles, saving up for that tube pre and $500 IC's....

My forray with the SDA's was well worth it. A unique sound that no other speaker I've heard can even begin to approach.

During my 5-6 months of employment with Circuit Shitty, one of the few pleasures from the job was showing people Polk products. Im willing to wager I have converted well over a hundred of would-be Bose/Infinity buyers, to Polk products. In fact, there was only two times when I could not convert a Bose lover in the demo room. You know how it goes, you can lead a horse to water.......

Sound is a fickle thing. Most people dont know what they are missing out on, nor do they really care. But once you show them good sound, it moves way up in their list of priorities.

Yeah, I love going into a CC when a guy is about to make a sale on some Infinity or Bose, then start asking him questions that prove his lack of intelligence in front of the would be buyers, then telling them why they should buy Polk...PolkAudio should just pay me to travel around the country and do that...man that would be a cool job...

Anyway, I'm still fairly young and still very antagonistic...was actually escorted out of a local CC last year...

Most people have fully functional ears, but are some who don't lol.

I remember this couple that were looking at the Bose 601's versus the RTi70's. First I played the Polk's, then the Bose. It sounded like someone had thrown a damn blanket over the speaker. The man smiled and said, "Wow, what a difference!" I said, "Yeah, I know....it's good stuff." Then he replied, "That Bose...they sure know how to make it." and he bought the 601's. I was just dumbfounded. :eek: It's damn fun most of the time though, like playing a Bose AM15 versus the Polk RM7200.

It happens. When comparing sats, I turned off all the subs. Now THAT was fun. After the demo, most were suprised to find the one they liked the least, was the Bose set up.

Now comparing Infinity and Polk was interesting. Results definately varied there.
