View Full Version : Noise coming out of sub - the cause?

I have a Inifinty Entra Sub Two. It is a 12" sub with a 250watt amp. It is hooked up through a single monster video bass cable running from my Onkyo 601 receiver. Yesterday I was messing around with the sub and noticed a very slight "noise" coming out of it when I put my ear in front of the speaker. It was a steady, light noise, the same constant pitch and was not noticable unless I was in front of the sub. I had the receiver on, but no source was going to it. Any ideas what is causing this and is it normal?

I had that happen with my sub. It turned out it was the sub cable. It had been stretched and the connector was damaged, and was somehow causing the noise. Try swapping cables.

cool. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

What kind of noise?

If it's a low pitched hum that doesn't change with the volume control, it's probably just servo hum - normal part of servo type amps I'm afraid, nothing you can do about it except put the sub far enough away from the listening position(s) that you won't normally hear it.

i used to have a low level hum in my PSW350 too. i just assumed it was the amp or the power running to it.

I have a SVS and i don't hear that same hum anymore. so who knows.

I'd say this is what I am experiencing. It is not very loud and I can't hear it unless I get in front of the sub. The "noise/hum" might increase slightly if I turn up the volume - need to check. If this is in fact what I am experiencing and there is nothing I can do, does this mean that I picked out a bad sub, that is does Infinity make bad subs?

sounds like the transformer...

like some of the polk subs owners have complained about 'humming'

If it's servo hum, no it's not a bad sub, it's part of the design, it's just supposed to hum...

If it's something else then ... dunno.
