Dan,

Why would you WANT to come. You don't like me (I've got the emails to prove it) and we don't have gear that you particularly care for.

So, what would be the point?

I have no problem with anyone coming but the fact remains, you don't care for SDA. You don't like Carver. You weren't impressed with the Carver Amazings. My wire and cabling is not up to your standards. You don't care for the RTi line and you think separates for them is a waste of time. There won't be much in the way of HT and even if I did, I'm sure mine isn't up to your standards based on the wiring alone. I just don't see what the attraction would be.

Well, there certainly is no pulling one past you gents... You all are invited but please leave my sheep alone. They're mine.

In all seriousness, I am attempting to hitch a ride with the parents (I just wont have the funds to make this trip with expenses that are going to hit me later this year and early next). Unfortunately we are obligated to bring our two dogs as we have no one reliable to watch over them at home. Finding lodging that accepts pets would be a major plus.

Hey Troy,
What are we doing exactly at this gathering?

Friday - ?

Saturday - ?

Sunday - ?

Because I will have school that Friday, and I really cant afford to miss any days of school because I will get behind in my work, so if yall are just gathering together and talking etc, I will probally come after school and will arrive around 8-9pm that day. If yall are demoing gear, I will definetely be there friday!

Now Saturday I plan to be there to hear the gear...

Sunday, what is going on? If nothing to major it going on we will probally leave that morning ----------

Also, are we aloud to sleep on the floor? We dont much want to get a Hotel, my mom being unemployed and all - so, we can get one, but if we could stay at your place, it would be nice.

At this point in time, we plan to come.

Me, Des, My Mom...

I might bring my B&K amp (not sure)....

TroyD
09-06-2004, 03:50 PM
Sid,

Friday night is pretty much going to be a hamburgers/hotdogs and so forth type event.

Saturday is the big day so even if you guys came down early on Saturday (It's about 3 hours from here to Rock Hill, SC so figure drive time accordingly) you would be ok that way.

Sunday is pretty much up to everyone what they want to do, hang out, play golf....whatever.

Sure, you guys can help yourself to some floor if you like. I have a pull out sofa in the mancave which your mom can have.

Coolio on the amp.

Troy,
Well if you put it that way, then I guess there isn't anything for me there. No reason to come down and meet anyone.Sorry to bother your thead.

I have no problem with anyone coming

Yes you do, you have a problem with me coming. It's cool I'd rather you tell the truth.

TroyD

Sorry....nevermind. Bad day. Bad mood.

Dan, if you want to come, come. I'll do my best to be a gracious host.

Sean,

Man, I'm not sure about local pet friendly hotels. Off the top of my melon, I'm drawing a blank. Have you thought about boarding them at a local kennel? We board our dog when we travel, it runs about ten bucks a day. That said, I'll see what I can come up with.

Yes, let all of us get together....

It may just a party to see everyone, the gear is cool but I wish to see other member there. Pictures will be cool when all of us get together ;)

BTW the Hurricane's are killing me.................... 2 of them in 3 weeks now talking about the next one F**K

Vr3MxStyler2k3
09-06-2004, 09:26 PM
Hmmm....

I may bring some B&K gear if I can arrange a way to haul it - I could haul the original boxes down there, that will get em there in one piece....

See how my gear measures up to the others down there...

No idea, I would bring my Definitives if I had a larger vehicle, but they are also hard to setup, and with limited time....

Someone must bring a SVS and HSU...so we can do a sub shootout

I cant wait to hear the Carver Amazings!

RuSsMaN
09-06-2004, 09:31 PM
With the speakers Troy has, a sub will be a moot point.

TroyD
09-07-2004, 01:01 PM
ok, here is a list of hotels that are very close by...

http://www.carolinaicepalace.com/Lodging/

My picks would be:

Holiday Inn Express
7670 Northwoods Blvd
843-553-1600
North Charleston SC

Hampton Inn
7424 Northside Dr 843-820-2030
North Charleston SC

Fairfield Inn
7415 Northside Dr 843-572-6677
North Charleston SC

The Motel 6 is ok and cheap from what I hear (for the budget traveler)

STAY AWAY FROM:

Super 8
Howard Johnson
La Quinta

Any of the others should be ok.....me, personally, I would recommend the Holiday Inn Express.

All of these hotels are close to my house, particularly the ones that I have recommended at the top......

If you have any specific questions, lemme know.

For those that demand top flight, try The Mill House in the heart of the trendy/historic downtown district. VERY nice digs.

I was enjoying my stay there a few years back when Wendi showed up and ruined my whole day. She brought Troy with her, that's how.

OHHHHHHH MY GOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDD!! It's come full circle to bite me in the ass hasn't it? You knew this all along you phony. You've been trying to get me down there so that Big Flo could get her hands on.................

OHHHHHHHHH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!

Was Wendi part of this? I am never double dating with you and Wendi and your mother-in-law again. I'm glad you managed to keep your food down during that meal knowing what you knew. YOU call yourself a friend. Okay. This is war. Next thing I sell you blows and takes your house with it.

Here is the real equation

2xGeorge = .75 Big Flo

I had your back, meng.

Looking forward to this guys, shaping up to be a world class event.

Oh, one thing I DID want to mention, if you have them, you may want to consider bringing one of those folding canvas chairs. Seats are about the only thing that I can think of that might be in short supply.

Just for that I'm not packing up and moving out until you're on the damn airplane. I was going to leave this week sometime. Get the smell of Brylcreme out the house. Now I hope it gags you when you walk in.

Troy,

Charleston is a great city. I've spent quite a bit of time there on business over the years (my organization has a training facility on Oscar Johnson Drive), and my wife and I have had some memorable times there as well.

I'm sure the Polkfest is going to be a blast. But, I can't make it to this one. Thanks for the invite, though, and y'all have a monkey bowl of gravy for me.

I was hoping to hitch a ride off of the parents (who have wanted to go to Charleston for some time now). It was looking good, but now it looks like my father will have duty on one of those days over the weekend.

Well guys, looks like I have to cancel on this, much to my dismay.

My company is having a major server upgrade, main firewall upgrade and having just been piled on top last week, a new office opening all during that week leading up to and during the weekend. Seems our bigwigs chose this weekend for the major part due to the holiday monday. If we run into any problems come monday morning, alot of our clients will be closed for the holiday and won't be impacted. This will give us a "live" day to work out any problems.

THIS F-ING BLOWS!!!! I really wanted to be there!!! Oh well, it's the life of an IT Professional and I chose it. There's always a catch to everything. Hey, they're now paying for my cable internet connection at home! WOO HOOO!!! Oh yeah, I'm now on emergency after hours and weekend call to go along with it. Gotta do some work from home to!

Sid,

How close to Charlotte are you?

There is no way you can be six hours from me. From here it's less than three to downtown Charlotte. We've done day trips to Panthers games and so forth.

I'm just saying, it's doable. If you leave at 7AM, you can be here in plenty of time.

Troy,

Welcome back home!

We made an unscheduled pit stop in your fair city on the 25th - as we outran hurricane Jeanne up the east coast on our 950 ft. surf board. I wish I'd have had the ways/means to get a chance to meet you. But, we were in port for just a few hours (pic attached.)

Are you SURE we can't lure you down? I know that F1 and dorokusai wouldn't mind the company on the ride down!

Anytime you are coming by Charleston, gimmie a shout.

For those folks staying at the Hampton Inn...

Which one are you staying at? There are 2 close by.

4701 Saul White Boulevard, North Charleston, SC 29418
843-554-7154
or

7424 Northside Drive, North Charleston, SC 29420
843-820-2030

Either one is fine, however, if you are driving in, the one on Northside Drive is closer and easier to get to.

No sweat either way, I actually didn't know that we had two here.

OFFICIAL

We have another sponsor.... www.stereomanuals.com

Rick Stout (Owner) has agreed to get on board, and drop a prize or two on the event.

I think this is a real sign that things are getting heated, and noticed in many circles. This is not just a Polk thing anymore gang, and it reflects greatly on our forum and our insanity for Polk products.

Yea, a couple sponsors may sound lame, and it's may just be an interconnect, or a free manual....but it means ALOT to the effort that is in this event, and to the people that participate...and perhaps wish they were able to attend.

We can only make this bigger and better if you guys want it to be that way.

Polk Audio has always gone out of their way to support these events. Micah Cohen is the Polk Forum Buddha, and he is someone we will never forget. Some of us have had the pleasure of a HUGE Polk HQ tour......met Stu "Wonderboy" Lumsden in TEXAS!!....and soon to meet again, Paul "The Enforcer" DiComo in SOUTH CAROLINA!

Why not participate, and get Grassroots with a company that has stayed more in touch with the customer than any manufacturer EVER?

Yep, I'm a geek, but I just love audio man, and like to meet people of similar interests. Polk made that actually cool, and not a jailable offense anymore ;)

Take some time out, come visit, and kick back....you may even win something for the ride home!

F1nut
09-29-2004, 03:24 AM
In keeping with the spirit of this event, I'll add a little something to the give-a-away prizes. A near mint, long out of print copy of Steely Dan's Gaucho on MFSL 24kt Gold disc. The only thing you have to do is to show up and it could be yours.

Gettin really stoked here, I am going to be bringing several pieces with me,eosone rsf 1000, klipsch rb 35, polk sda 2b, tenn sound co. speakers ( these are one of a kind ), phillips c.d.,l.d. player that I think sounds extremly good, dynaco pat 4, knight integrated amp if I can find some tubes in time, and a few other misc. items.

You guys will just have to over look the eosones as they are a work in progress and they have some cosmetic issues that I still do not have resolved but it does not effect their performance.

The biggest issue is the sub amp in one tower may not be functioning when I get there, I had pulled it out today with intentions of getting it repaired on monday, I layed it in front of the unit on the floor with the inards facing the ceiling and while I was behind the speaker placing the screws back in the respective holes my oldest walked up to see what I was into and stepped smack down on the power supply board and broke it into two pieces so I have no idea if I will be able to have it working or not but they still sound great even with just the one towers sub working. I would just purchase one from polk but just lack the funds to do so right now. To bad they wouldn't loan us one for the meet and paul could bring it with...hint hint.

Anybody bringing stands we could set the klipsch on?

Looking foward to this,

list of components .(mainly speakers)
I can cover:
Polk monitor 10's
Advent Large (early version)
JBL 4410 monitors (for fun)
KLH 17's
Infinity RS6000's(again just for gettin' nasty loud)

Still planning on :
Kenwood M2 amp/C2preamp
Jolida J100 CDP
33 misc Jazz,Blues,Classical and Rock CD's
Living relatively close by I can rotate speakers to cover a broader range/variety of speaker styles and someone coming from further
out can use the extra space.

Let me tell ya’ll a story ‘bout a man named Jess,
Who could ride the roof to Charleston without his hair all in a mess.
The Polkies were a plannin’ an audio jamboree,
So Jess and Mark started packin’ for their trip to see TroyD.

Well the next thing you know Russ started packin’ up his stash,
He said “buy some stock in UPS boys and make yerselves some cash!”
Ole’ hotwheelman, not to be outdone,
Rented him a semi and started packin’ by the ton.

The invasion began on Friday after all had checked their lists,
Homeland Security panicked “it must be terrorists!”
F-15’s were scrambled to see what intelligence they’d yield,
But the sonic waves from Troy’s house had created a force field.

Bush summoned Ridge and said “Tom, this don’t compute!”
Ridge headed south and was dropped by parachute.
But, by that time, the SDA’s had created such a broad soundstage,
He missed his mark by miles, landing in DuPage.

To TD's list I added Russ's FedEx'd Mon 7's, hotwheelman's list (http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=223908#post223908) , DAGLJAM6's List (http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=224052&highlight=list%2A#post224052) and my few items...

Appear to be some duplicates, but before you decide not to bring "yours", please communicate or we could end up without... Not sure that would be a bad thing though, as it is we are going to end up stacked on top of each other like a totem pole to fit in a room with this gear... Nice problem to have.

Also, in the spirit of freebies.....

I've got a stack of probably, oh, 50 LP's that I came accross. Free for the taking. No guarantee of quality....flip through and take what you want.

Just an update on my end.....

I've got a keg of Miller Lite on tap...

Friday night, burgers, brats and beer. Plus those that show get to help set up.

Saturday, we've got pulled pork BBQ / fried chicken being catered by Dukes BBQ here in town.

Now, I tentatively said 10-6 on Saturday, but, honestly that can go earliler and/or later. I have nothing planned for Saturday night so if some want to hang out until whenever, that's fine. If we all want to go out somewhere, that's cool too. Play it by ear...

As I said, I just ordered a Philips DVD963SA for our use, it's been well reviewed so it should be cool.

Anything else that I can do to make things smoother for those travelling in, just let me know.

It appears that Dave is bringing some Large Advents...If that is the case, then I'll leave mine at home. It'll allow me to bring one of the small cars rather than the SUV (cheaper on gas too).

Doro said something about wanting to give a listen to my little Dayton Titanic sub which is no problem to load it up...plus I'm bringing a NAD C270 amp.Is anyone actually planning on playing Golf on Sunday?

I have a guy looking at my sub amp for the eosones, looks like it may be back in action just in time for the meet or at least I hope so. My shadow may be tagging along guys, so if he is full of questions please give him your ear. If he does come with me I cannot wait to see the expession on his face when he hears the 2.3's, I know it will be priceless.:D Personally I cannot wait to demo the amazings and if they still sound like I think they do I may be at the pawn shop when I get back workin a deal.

Oh yeah, some poeple have the best luck, guy dad works with picked up a mid sized pair of maggies at a yard sale for one franklin over the weekend. I told him to tell him I would give him his money back for them.:D Never hurts to ask...eh?

On a more serious note, I think Jesse has a point.

I don't want to speak for our gracious host (on top of stealing his EQ list), but I read way back in the thread when Sid was looking to attend, that Saturday would be fine, but Friday night might not be such a good idea.

If TXPFII is any indicator, and why it would not be, I don't know, the above is pretty much on target...

Sean,

No problemo, man, but you'll have to provide a trailer for the small furry critters. PM me a phone number, and we'll arrange something. I will be taking I95, Hopefully your going to be close to it.

While your at it, send me an address, and I'll see about something better if you can't meet me on 95. Basically, I'll call you when I'm an hour or so away, or something similar. I'll have room, but no kinky kinky w/ the speakers or so help me you'll ride the friggin' luggage rack.

Anything else that I can do to make things smoother for those travelling in, just let me know.

Also- is there any room in your place for my sorry butt to stay?

Well, on the bright side, I've decided to stop calling it the wedding reception but rather "The Drink Your Fucking Face Off EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!!! Brought to you by the celebration of John and Emily gettin' hitched!"

Kinda long and complicated but I think it gets the message across.

Troy, the better half is making the trip with and my son will also most likely be making the trip with as well. As far as the issues with language, drinking and farting....well....he's a pro at the gas end of things and as far as the other issues go he has a couple of uncles that are like that just about all the time, so it couldn't possibly get any worse than it already is.

We should be in around 6 and hope that we will not be any later than that. Do have one question, are the mon. 7's that are listed assumed to be the ones that I have? If so I will see if I have room to bring them but one cab. has some real nasty cosmetic issues on the corners but does not hurt performance at all. Picked up a little something at the pawn shop that I am bringing as a piece of bonus gear, scored an adcom gfa 535 for cheap.
