Hello, this is my first post so I hope this is in the right section.

I have had this subwoofer for sometime now and recently my amp died on me so I'm looking to buy a new one and was wondering if I should keep this subwoofer or move on. I bought this 12" subwoofer and box for $50 so I wasn't expecting much but when it was running 175W RMS I loved it, alot more so than my brother's 2 12" Alpines. I'm not a big bass-aholic so I'm not looking for a whole lot. I figured since this is a Polk Audio forum somebody here would have some knowledge about this subwoofer. Any details/help is appreciated.

did you buy it new or used? if new, what about any paper work that came with it, or used, try asking who you bought it from, if theyre around. you could also possibly go to a local shop, they might have an idea...

yes, letting a shop take a look is a good idea... they see an awful lot of subs pass through... ask everyone at the shop, and if no one knows, try somewhere else; time consuming, but free and may get results

That is an EX series subwoofer. I cannot tell if it is a I, II or III sub though.

It is most likely an EXIII (EX3) sub though.

As far as what to do, if you are happy with it, no reason to replace it, just get a new amp with a similar amount of power. I'm not sure on specs though. Maybe Kim can help out.

If you want to find out for sure, you have to take the subwoofer out of the enclosure. You have to take the screw around the edge of the speaker out and then carefully remove the speaker and look at the back of the magnet. It should have everything back there from model name/number and serial number to the power handling.

Nothing wrong with an EX subwoofer though. The EX series in any interation, I, II or III were very good speakers for thier price. If you are happy and it gets your job done then keep it unless you are looking for an excuse to upgrade.

I checked the back of the magnet and it didn't say anything. But thanx for the help. I bought it used from a friend. I'm planning on buying an amp that's 230W RMS so if the sub holds out I'll keep it, but if it blows then oh well. Thanx again.
