"Tank Girl" has to be the worst movie I've seen in recent memory. Thank goodness it was just a cheap DVD rental.

Why in the hell would they commit a piece of crap like that to DVD yet here I sit wondering what's holding up Star Wars??!!??
Micah Cohen

I don't what I was thinking... That Lori Petty is cute, that the little dark haired Aussie chick is cute, that the concept was "Road Warrior-ish," that I met Ice-T once and he was pretty cool...? Whatever. I rented the stupid thing, since MGM is releasing a slew of its back catalog on pretty good, anamorphic, 5.1 discs (I plan to watch "Cotton Club" tonight). It would make a good drink coaster. Thank goodness I didn't buy it.
Another dumb movie that attracted me cause of the hot chick on the cover: "Heavy Metal 2000." It's ****e. Even the animation isn't up the level of the lame, pre-computerized animation in the original 1980 "Heavy Metal," which I love. And the "hot chick," a penthouse pet named Julie (of course), really isn't all that hot when you really get a good, close look at her. What a letdown. Another rental, thankfully.
And listen, I don't want to start a big "Star Wars" flame argument, but you know, if, when the stupid movie finally comes to DVD, it's not in its absolutely original, pre-monkeyed-with, pre-special-editioned form... I'm just not buying it. I'm sure that freaking Lucas will make that version available; it'll be one of the multi-versions he markets when he finally gets around to it. I can't believe people are actually lining up to get "Phantom Menace" on DVD... I can't believe that at shows from now on all I'm going to see as a demo is the stupid pod race scene. Why don't we boycott his crap and teach him a lesson? Why must we keep giving him money for nothing?
Grrr. "Tank Girl" was horrible, but it was better than "TPM." So there.

Is it just me... or has anyone else noticed that every
chick named Juli(e) is a psycho?
Micah Cohen
07-27-2001, 09:25 AM
No it is not just you.
Every chick named Julie is psycho. In fact, any "J" named chick is psycho. For me, it started when I was 15 with a "Jennifer." Only later was there a "Julie," and most recently I made the mistake of another "Julie." In fact, I'd go so far as to say that, for me, J, K and L names are dangerous.
Now, when I meet chicks, I ask the usual, "What's your name?" question, and if it's "Julie," or any J, K or L name, I suddenly get a sick look on my face, start slapping my arms around my body and yelling "Snakes! SNAKES! Snakes on me!" and run away screaming.
It's the only thing you can do. My next girlfriend needs to be named "Angie," or "Samantha" or something non-J, K or L. (But you know, you can't get away from them.)

Micah, even I would not go near HM2000. The frist was great. Just the look of the cover for 2000 is horrid.
I will almost bet that we will NOT see SW in its origional form, you know Lucas will most likely add even more stuff. Although I hope against hope that he will put the origional theater version on the disk and us seemless branching for the added footage.
I am going to the HTF national meet in September, in which we will vist FOX once again. Knowing the free-bees these studios give out, I am hoping to see TPM as it is released 2 weeks after the meet. That will save me from lineing up at Best Buy at midnight for TPM, yes I will be in line, so there.

Phantom Menace BLOWS.
Period, end of story. I'd rather watch Tank Girl once a week for life, vs seeing PM the SECOND time.
Darth Maul, CCCCCCCHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Jar Jar? Give me a big F'n break.
Sad, SAD display. I was and will remain an original Star Wars fan, I saw it in the theater as a kid, I had the original action figures, the ships, the COOL STUFF. ESB was greatness too as a sequel. Even the little gay-ewoks in ROTJ are bearable (no pun) compared to the crap characters and pathetic storyline that PM forced down our throats.
I felt violated, I felt used, I felt CHEATED.
Sorry to open this up, but it really messes with my head.

I've only dated one J girl, Julia. She wasn't psycho, though. I am pretty much in love with a Julie, but instead of her being crazy, she's making ME crazy. I guess that's just as bad. And then there's this other girl Jen.....man, there are a lot of J's here. What's going on? Micah!!!
Everyone agrees TPM did not even get close to living up to the orignal trilogy. However, if you consider on its own, it's a decent movie. Too bad I don't think of it that way. Heh. They have a lot of ground to make up in Epsiode II. And yes, I'll be there opening day (or morning if they do the 12am thing again).

Aaron,
Micah is right. Stay far, far away from the J's.
Julia (or any variation of Juli, Julie, Jewels, Julia, etc) - they are all absolutely psycho. The crazy's that you are feeling; well, thats just phase-1 of the master J-plan (they all do that). The only defense is to completely isolate yourself from the J-girl.
Intensive listening to Polk Audio speakers is the first step towards recovery. Be prepared though - this will guarantee to put a J-girl on the offensive. She won't rest until she controls every aspect of your soul and your music collection. Pretty soon, you'll find Carly Simon among your CD's. Then, you'll start thinking to yourself.... maybe B - - - speakers would fit the decor of HER living room better.
RUN MAN - RUN. While you still can. Perhaps its already too late?

Truly scary man. Girls with J-K-L names will make you:
- Leave your home and run all over the country trying to find peace;
- Ditch your jobs and your friends, all in a futile effort to get away;
- Twitch uncontrollably when you realize that every femme fatale/evil woman in every movie ever made has the same name/look;
- Have panic attacks regularly;
- Lose weight from lack of appetite;
- Become intimately aquainted with the stucco patterns on your bedroom ceiling from lack of sleep;
- Raise your expectations to unbelieveable levels, only to be left high and dry by other girls with "lesser" names;
I'm sure there's more, but I'm having shortness of breath and heart palpatations just thinking about this.

What I don't understand is, when you DO meet a girl (and eventaully break up with her), after her, every girl you meet has the SAME DAMN NAME or some similar variation.
You: "Hey, I've been talking to you for an hour and you seem pretty cool, what's your name?"
Her: "It's XXX"
You: "Ahhhh, damn it, well, nice talking to you...".
You: "Let's get out of here guys, it's another XXX".
Never fails. And you know she's crazy just like the last 4 XXXs.

"Amber" is a porn star's name. That's not my fault. Don't name your daughter Amber if you don't want to send out the message that your daughter is a porn star.

I'd been wondering about "What Women Want". Do you know if there are any older movies where the sound has been re-engineered for 5.1?
The last movie I saw on the big screen was Titanic. I just sort of dropped out of going to movies in the last 10-15 years. I objected to the prices and don't care to put up with cell phones in a theater.

The Bogart films are not in 5.1, they are in mono (also, remember, they're not widescreen films), but the prints used on the DVDs are glorious, rich and detailed. You can not see them in any better form. The discs also have some good extras on them, as I recall.

Does cable TV or digital cable ever broadcast in 5.1? Here in Nashville, Comcast is touting digital cable but I haven't seen it myself yet. Ya'll forgive me but I haven't watched much TV in years either. I'm very involved with computers. In fact, I run a SeniorNet Learning Center.
