I'm just curious, how many of you use a SPL meter to fine tune your home theatre system? I know that this may be a personal preference issue, but I am thinking about doing it.

I found that the Sound and Vision Test disc, and SPL meter helped a lot. I was running my sub about 13 dB hot, now it is just 2-3 hot. I really had no idea before. I also use the SPL meter frequently when making changes to my parametric eq. Also the speakers sound much better when they are all properly balanced.

I'd say using it is a good idea becuase it can detect minor differences that your ear cannot.

That being said, I don't own one but plan on picking one up soon.

Was lucky enough to get the older Radio shack one with the neddle. I used the S+V test CD tones.
Well worth it...balanced my center very well with the L+R.

Thought it was pretty steep to pay $60 for such little use but after setting up a few freinds systems [mount it on a tripod..more beer looks better] it din't set idle long.

I've been using one for years, even before HT.

I have one, but to be honest the only thing I use it for is getting close to the 'ideal' equal level, then I play around slightly until it sounds 'right' to me, recheck with the SPL and sometimes find things a bit out, but hey, if it sounds good to me.....
