I bought a PSW303 at Fry's 2 weeks ago and I'm thinking about upgrading to the 505. I'll pay the 505 only $300 ($200 for the upgrade), thx to the sub free promotion by Polk.
Do you think that buying the HSU STF-2 at CompUsa for $350 would be a better choice? I don't like their return policy. Only 14 days and 15% open box fee  !!!

YOu'd be better off returning the psw-303 and ordering a velodyne cht-12 online from I believe, J&R, it's only 250 and I'm pretty sure it's believed to be superior to the 505, though to be fair I've only h eard the cht-12, which, even elevated off the floor in the little ht room at cc it still shakes the room pretty well.

Are you sure about that? I can't find velo subs in the J&R website :( .

I've heard both the Velo 12 and the 505. I prefer the 505. IMO the 505 hits deeper. I will give the Velo credit for being 'sturdy'. I've never heard a HSU, so I can't comment on that one.

I found the CHT12 at J&R, but with shipping cost it will be $309. About the same price of the PSW505.
I do 50 HT/50 music.
Who's the most musical?
I guess I'll demo both subs at Fry's and CC.
Thx for your help guys :).

$300 is a steal for the quality of the 505. I am very pleased with my 505 at $500.

I can't believe I am going to say this....
But for the price - I'd go with the Polk. Pretty good quality driver, amp - hits decent. Wood finish..Polk
The HSU won't have quite the impact. BUT, it will be the most accurate.

Didn't the free subwoofer deal expire already?

I also second the 505 for $300. If the STF-2 has any extension advantage, it's minimal. And the 505 will run circles around it in the output department with 300 watts and a 12" high excursion woofer.
As far as accuracy goes, only an FR sweep and THD measurements of the two in the same location (or better yet outside) will reveal any differences in "accuracy" (which to me means a flat FR and low THD). They are both bass reflex units, so group delay and impulse response will be similar. The 505 is a very good buy at $300.

I think I'll upgrade to the 505.
For bokdaddy
The promotion is expired, but the salesman says that he'll gladly let me upgrade within the 30 days returnables period :D .

Ok I have to chime in here on the Velo vs. Polk comment. Where I work we used to have the Velo cht and spl line, and when the new polk subs came out I directly compared the PSW 404 to the Cht-12 as well as the Klipsch KSW-12. I won't go into all the details but I must say that the Polk KILLED both of them. It was deeper, louder, richer, and smoother.
I say 505 all the way.

I just came back from Fry's.
They were demoing The Return of the King with the PSW505, a HK 630(?) as pre-pro I guess, a Mitsubishi amp and three monitors: Pioneer 50" plasma, Sharp 37" LCD, Sony (37 plasma?).
Damn this sub kick some serious ass :D . It hits a lot deeper than my 303 and it's loud :D. It's amazing the demo station was in an open space... the whole store  !!!
My salesman (almost friend) has talked to some managers. Tomorrow morning I'll take my new sub :).

I hooked my brand new 505 with the Monster MB400. LFE->L/R line level with the Y adapter bundled with the cable. Am I bypassing the triple-crossover of my HK AVR-7200 receiver (80hz for mains, 100hz for CSi3 and Large for my floorstanding surround)?
LFE level -5 on my receiver. Volume on 11 and sub crossover on 80hz. It was boomy with LFE level at 0.
Both music and HT sounds amazing :).
I played the 51th scenes of Two Towers "The Breach of Deeping Wall" and now it shakes my couch :) .
I just moved the sub from beside my right main speaker to my fireplace that I never use. So now it's about 1 foot above the carpet, about 9 inches near a 120 degree corner looking away from my sweet spot.
Tomorrow I'll see if I got tighter bass. I love tight bass :D.
Any tweaking advice will be apreciated :).
6ave.com has the CHT-12 for $260 with free shipping (ok, 6 cents). Just ordered mine. :)
