Over here in N.Z we had a problem with guys selling speakers out of the back of vans. They sold on the pretence that they were American high performance when they were actually made in china. They sold them for u.s $400 and were valued at u.s $30? Today they were charged with fraud (big round of applause). The u.k, aussie and we have all had the problem. Did it effect you guys in the U.S? Any thoughts.

The white van specials have been around for quite a while, but I'm not aware that they've ever been officially charged as a group here in the US....

Yes, the 'White Van' folks are alive and well in the US as well. I've always found that a deal that seems to good to be true, usually is.

Ahhh yes, the White Van Man. The guys that roll up beside your car and tell you to pull over in the parking lot ahead because they've been "Authorized" by their store manager to dump excess stock at a very reduced price.
I've had my run-ins with them over the years. Have never heard of them being arrested and charged though. Too bad!

They used to hang out in the CC parking lot by my house. I had about 4 run-ins with them. They would look for people going in to CC (there are other chain stores that share the lot). Their line is usually something to the effect that there was a "clearance" sale.
They were in that parking lot many times until about a year ago when they disappeared. Good riddance

i first met the white van people as a kid in the 70's. They would cruise around trying to get kids to buy the speakers. It was always the authorized clearance, but once or twice the story was, they gave us a double order when we loaded the van, so we are selling them cheap.

I don't see any laughter in this post though. Where are all the people who laughed at me when I brought up the white van man? ;)

Here's an article about the white vans (http://www.audioenz.co.nz/2004/archive_whitevans.shtml) from AudioEnz, it's a kiwi online audio mag.

There are tons of "white van" encounters documented on the Internet. It would be really funny if it is a single organized group.

I actually know someone in nz ( to embarrassed to call him a friend) who bought a pair! I did get to listen to them aswell, one word sums it up S#!T. I would've put it in the original post but didnt have the courage. Any ridicule will be passed on by the way;)

I know a guy who got the white van guys to load the speakers onto his truck with the idea to follow him to the ATM. He lost them in the parking lot and never paid. We figure the speakers were worth upwards of $40-45 canadian.

here's an interesting complaint about someone buying audiophile speakers from a parking lot. :D
