My sub just started humming like mad and I don't know why. If the pre-out from the sub is not hooked up to the receiver and sub is on there is no hum. As soon as I plug it in I think my sub is about to blow. Whats going on?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Polk sub? If so, post in "troubleshooting" and Ken (from Polk) will give you the info you need.

Sounds like a ground loop or something. I don't know how that works in home audio....

If you are a cable tv user, disconnect the cable box from your system and see if the hum goes away.

Not quite sure what it is but brought my receiver to my dealer today and they looked at it really quick and said it had something to do with power, or power surge, or something of that nature. I don't really care because it is all under control, my unit is being sent out and warranty is taking care of it.
The one thing my dealer sugested to me was to look into power protection, like panamax or monster power. What do you guys think, I don't want to spend a lot of money on it but if it is a good idea, I will think of buying one.
Let me know.

Both are good (panamax and monster power) and both offer really nice lifetime warranties to gear connected to their protection. Someone here on the forum got hit by lightning, and Monster actually honored their warranty. Nice peace of mind to have.

Just thinking about it but is a power bar enough? It say's it is a surge surpressor.
