To any who love film, and especially film scores, we've lost a great man. Jerry Goldsmith was one of the most prolific and popular film score composers since the early 70's. He is probably one of the only people to rival John Williams in popularity and number of films scored. His music for The Omen won him his only Oscar, although other films garnered him numorous nominations. Other films are Poltergeist, Alien, Medicine Man, Rudy, Star Trek 1,5,8-10 (including the popular theme used for TNG opening credits), The Edge, The Shadow, Chinatown, Total Recall, L.A. Confidential, and many more, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Mr. Goldsmith also was a professor of music at the UCLA graduate program in recent years. He passed away from cancer two weeks ago at 75. He lived a good long life, and left behind a lot of great music, and he will be missed.
