Been waiting for this fun fest.. This will be one of the only movies I see at the theater this year. I betted it would happen 4 years ago and I was laughed at. Beeahatches are handing over the money and beer now.
Kinda of sad you started the thread and picked option 3. Guess that makes you really bored.......

This movie is going to kick A$$. With AVP and RE2 a month apart
Paul Anderson is going make lots of money. I will be first in line for both.......

Anyway, how ever wins - we lose!!!!!!!! ;)

Predators all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!! They killed Jesse "The Gov'na" Ventura. What was the silly woman's name that cleaned up against the alien, Ripley or something. Crap, it's no contest.

That alien puss should run away with it's tail between it's legs, being whipped by a girl. Sheeesh.

HELL YES!!! This movie is going to rock beyond all belief!!! I've been waiting for years for this to come out. Has anyone been to Yahoo's movie section of this movie to check out the fight scene? I haven't laughed so hard in months! God I'm pumped for this....

BTW - Predators > Aliens > Humans. 'Nuff Said!

I can't believe there is not more of a buzz on this movie here. Bunch of frickin cinics. Aliens for three reasons:

1. Numbers, attrition kicks ass.

2. Predators don't have loaders.

3. No one else seems to like them and they have acid blood.:D

Its rated PG-13! You can't do AvP in a PG-13 setting!

BAH, should be fun though, so long as you don't take it seriously!

Where's the line item for...

"It's going to be a tie" so AvP II, the sequel, can be made. You know it will happen if this is successful, which I sure it will be.

This one is a must see, although I am bummed about the PG-13 rating, it should have been R, or better yet NC-17.

Ugh, pg-13! Can I change my vote???

gmorris
08-10-2004, 07:48 PM
The PG-13 rating isn't necessarily a bad thing. It just means the movie itself has to be good. Good writing, good action sequences ect.... The PG-13 rating just means we won't get all bloody and guts falling out of someones a-hole.

Think about this; watch Predator on public TV or cable. It is edited for content, but still ultimately watchable & enjoyable.

I don't see the PG-13 rating as a negative at all.

Really all PG-13 stands for now-a-days is no nudity, everything else seems game.
Don't take seriously - people are still walking around dressed like friken Hobbits!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see more AVP support, I hear they are making a Legally Blonde 3 if you guys really want to get excited......

Aliens....who said they weren't smart? they are the evoulitionary perfected creature. Did you see the part in the preview with the 4 predators on top of the temple and only a couple thousand aliens crawling up the stairs after them? I don't think those predators made it out alive. Predators are big and nasty but aliens arent exactly pussy cats. And the nuclear bomb is only used to commit suicide if they fail their manhood test, it isnt a weapon against attackers. I can't freakin wait for this movie, pg13 or not, i want to see it soooo bad. let's hope they don't go all m. night on us and make the aliens and predators some weird military guys in suits scaring civilans away from the temples lol. Maybe a deaf girl will save the day in this movie :D

One small thing to point out, the Predators do NOT have a nuclear bomb. Think about it, when Arnold dropped the tree stump on the Predator, he activated the bomb with the equipment on his wrist. He then began laughing, which he was mimicking from one of the guys who got killed, maybe Billy. Arnold then jumped off the cliff and hid in a ditch or something. He then is rescued, and is shown flying away in the helecopter. If that had been a nuclear bomb, Arnold would have been killed. It was not a nuke, just a big ass bomb.

The stupid part of that whole scene was that the "bomb" was effective enough to knock out electrical circuits in the chopper about 1-2 miles from the "mushroom cloud", but just not enough to knock Dutch unconscious from a distance of about 200 feet!

so the invisible alien from outer space is easy to swallow but his neutron-like self destruct bomb is what bothers you?

:D just kidding. always liked this movie, but as with most of this genre, you have to ignore your common sense and intelligence as soon as the opening title rolls.

Read the thread, we already went thier. PG13 doesn't mean shaat now-a-days. Allows movies to rack in more dough. Basically the only restrictions are total nudity and I do not need to see the predator naked.... I do not need a Will Smith character saying the F word every 5 seconds in a movie like this.

And this coming from a guy that is disapointed the the movie "Girl Next Door" is not XXX rated.........

Anywho - they had the making of it on FOX network and it looks awesome. Even more excited to see it this weekend!!!!
This is gonna ROCK!!!

I think the entire concept of A vs. P is awesome. But remember, it all started about a year ago with Freddy vs. Jason, remember? (did anyone see that?)

I'd like to see the Vs. style movies continue. Here are some ideas:

Pulp Fiction vs. Resevoir Dogs
Norm Abrams vs. Bob Vila

Good idea Greg, how about Predator vs Bob Vila? It could be an animated fun, DIY adventure with a bloody, dismembered ending.

maybe they only have to rate it pg-13 because theres not actually blood or real parts. most of the fighting is gonna be between the two aliens so their parts can be spilled everywhere without bothering anyone. not like movies with saving private ryan or black hawk down when people are carrying around their own arms or half blown up somewhere with their guts hangin out. maybe alien violence isnt bad enough for them to rate a movie R.

Remember the scene where Danny Glover walks into the predator ship and sees all the "trophies" and there's an alien skull sitting there? I could be wrong but I could've swore this was even a comic book long ago. The idea of AVP has been around much before any other VS movies/concepts. They just haven't found the right director to take on the idea.... until now.

You don't know that. Friday the 13'th & Nightmare on Elm Street movies have been around since the early '80's. Long time before Predator or Alien. Somebody could have cooked up the idea of Freddy vs. Jason way before some video game about AVP came along.

This is a silly argument anyway. None of us know for sure. All I was trying to say was I like the "Vs." movie idea. First we had Freddy Vs. Jason, now we got AVP. I hope they keep doing these kind of movies.

Actually AVP has not a single thing to do with Freddy VS Jason.
The director was even affaid that people would link the two - and that is why sooo much of the plot has spilled out.

It all started with the ending of Predator 2. Do some homework.
And soon after the powerful buzz, Dark Horse started doing the comics......... That was over 5/6 years ago.
I have AVP actions figures and comics from over 5 years ago...
You have been served..;)

Airplay and Toxis you are both right : great comments.

Gmorris - your really reaching. Really bad uneducated comment. It's not a silly argument and i have alot of passon in this AVP franchise.
F vs J was a dum A$$ consept and movie. But is was spawned off the ending of one of thier movies also awhile back.

Ok guys, this movie pretty much sucked ass. I had a feeling it would, from the moment they handed the reigns to Paul Anderson. Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat are not good movies. They pretty much made this one the same way, like a video game. Setting the action on Earth in present day was a bad idea. I'll try not to give too much away, but the PG-13 anxiety was appropriate. Most of the gore is implied when it comes to humans, although they don't seem to have any qualms with showing lots of acid blood and flourescent green blood. I won't get started on how fucked up and hypocritical the ratings system has become (gore and violence warrants less of a reaction than "Fuck you" or a nice pair of breasts), but overall the film was pretty bad. Lots of shots were stolen from other films. You know you're in trouble when the Queen Alien running after her prey looks just like the T-Rex from Jurassic Park.
The characters aren't even worth getting attached to, which makes their complete expendability even more irrelevant to the plot. Aliens was truly the best of the Alien series, and the original Predator should have been where that series stopped. Both films had a slew of expendable but highly enjoyable characters, who we spent some time getting to know before they were simply offed en masse. Even in those films, where the plots were simple and action-oriented, there was still room for revelation, and genuine disappointment when certain characters didn't make it. I will admit seeing these creatures go toe to toe in some scenes was pretty cool, but I really wish the story and setting (and director) could have been better. And hasn't the whole alien beings as progentors of ancient culture god worship/temple creation been done a hundred times??? Hope that doesn't spoil things for too many of you, but this film really does blow. About the only possible use I can think of is perhaps if given a good DTS soundtrack, it may be worthy of demonstration status for the sound system alone. Lots of cool surround effects, and a few moments of heavy bass. All in all, don't waste your money in the theater. As a side-thought, as the film portrays it, the Aliens actually seem to have an advantage over the Predators in a lot of the combat scenes, but when the Predators get their hands on their more sophisticated weapons, they begin to have the edge. However, when outnumbered, the Predators again start to get their asses kicked.

I wasn't expecting too much in the way of plot, no, but they tried anyway. My feeling: if they're going to try for a plot, at least try to make a good one. And the Alien/Predator battle scenes really don't take up that much screen time. The film tries too much to be a horror film, without understanding that none of us are scared by these creatures anymore, we just want to see them fight. Would have been so much better if it took place in the future, where the Alien/human world has been established and the Predators come in to the mix and cause holy hell.

What year was Aliens set in?

Anything that would act as if these creatures were discovered today (well before they were "discovered" in the future) makes the timeline jacked from the get go......bad move.

gregure
08-15-2004, 06:09 PM
Agreed. I believe Alien takes place a century or two from now, and obviously the second one is 60 years later than that. At least a hundred years to be sure.

08-15-2004, 08:21 PM
whoa slow down guys.....the timeline isnt jacked up, infact there isnt inough info to even make a timeline from the beginning... in the first alien movie the people on the ship think they have found a distress call and are required by law to check it out. however you later find out that the mission was a complete fraud and that the military had planned it out. the military already knew about the aliens, and wanted to bring one back to earth to use as a weapon. so when were the aliens really discovered? ask the military.

1) Space ships are NOT present day (not the type that are in the original Aliens)
2) Military can't be trusted with things regarding UFO's
3) Aliens that were 'warring' in present day and discovered by scientists would have been WELL documented making the initial discovery in the future totally impossible....(in terms of it being as if they'd never known about their existence before)

brett i have no idea what you are talking about.....

the most recent movie, avp, was set in present day, lets say 2004. say the military discovered the alien species in 2004. the first alien movie was set in the future, so lets say the year 2080 cuz i cant remember the real date. they thought that they were the first to discover the aliens on that remote planet when after they beat the shit out of the robot they realize the military already knew about the aliens and had purposely sent them there to bring an alien back to earth. so the timeline isnt really fucked up because the date of when the military discovered the aliens is never known. so all im saying is that the alien species was infact not discovered in the first movie. the aliens were just not made a public fact. the military had already discovered them.

put ur bat down mofo, u struck out :p

brettw22
08-16-2004, 12:51 AM
regardless, the timeline is off if anyone is wanting to draw a line between each respective series and this movie.

The reality is that it probably shouldn't be attmpted to tie avp to the other series because it doesn't make sense in the overall lineage.......

Who cares, watch it, don't watch it, it will fund itself regardless of anyone who hates it. I love the Alien genre, but I also know it's not a groundbreaking movie. Me, I'll wait for it on DVD, because that's my normal course of action.

finally, i got to see this movie. it was definitely fun. predators are awesome. it could have been a little longer, but i guess they didnt want to make things repetitive for the audience. i kinda wish there were more then 3 predators too. the whole queen alien thing was another stupid thing, i never liked that idea. the predator and alien fights were pretty entertaining. the movie kinda reminded me of jurassic park with the whole rich guy wanting to be remembered thing. oh well, plot isnt important, i just wanted to see ass kicking.

i must have gone to the theater that was sans subwoofer because the sound sucked. for any of you who actually went to a good theater, was there some pretty good sound? im hoping that when they release it on dvd it has a good sound mix. those atomic explosions from the predators would make for some pretty heavy bass.

overall it was an enjoyable movie :D im not disappointed at all

i agree that it wasnt a great movie...but i enjoyed it
towards the end of the movie when you could tell it was winding down i was thinking is this it? it seemed REALLY short...but it was already a little over an hour and a half i believe...did anyone else get that feeling?
i wish there wouldve been more fighting
but it was still a good movie

i thought that was pretty funny because it seemed really lame...

From the director himself. He stated in an interview that he did not have final cut of the film, and the studio cut out a good 30 minutes of the film, including all of the gore, which was supposed to be pretty intense.
