Hello,
My name is Guy Frick and I am from Pierre, SD. I recently purchased two of your Polk Momo MM120 subwoofers. I installed them and one makes a popping/tapping noise. It sound like there is something tapping the red center cap. Do you have any ideas on what this may be? I never had the volume that high and the gain on my amps were never higher than half of the amps maximum setting.

My other question is, does the sealed box volume make that big of a difference in sound quality, or could it eventually hurt the sub or affect its performance?

Thanks

You sure its the dust cap? Other people have had the same problem (2-3). Someone said before (I think) that the voice coil came unglued. Or it could be around the woofers mouting flange. Make sure u have it sealed tight.

Guy,
The MOMO series subs are designed to be used in small sealed enclosures due to their high cone displacement at low bass frequencies. The MM120 requires a sealed box volume of .88 cubic feet per woofer. If the subs are emitting a "tapping" sound then I would recommend returning them to our service department for exchange. The address is
Polk Audio 2550 Britannia Boulevard Suite D San Diego, CA. 92154.
Include a short note with your name, address, daytime telephone number, description of the problem, and a copy of your receipt.
When you receive the replacement woofers back from service, make sure to "break-in" the woofers for 40 hour by playing music at a reasonable level to let the suspension break in or loosen up.

Thanks,
Kim
