Hi everybody,
I'm a college student who's decided that multimedia speakers aren't going to cut it for music. I'm thinking about getting bookshelves to hook up to an old receiver (Harmon Kardon AVR 25 II - anyone know anything about it?). If I have the money, I'll get a sub down the line but for now, I'll mostly be listening to music (classic rock, alternative, STP, that kind of stuff). Now I've got a friend who works at an audio retailer and he can get me the rti4's for $110/pair or the rti6's for $160/pair.
Some more info: I'm going to be in a dorm room, so around 18x14 but I'm not looking for a HT set-up. I'm going to have the speakers on a shelf or a desk and sitting nearby.
My question is, for what I'm going to be using them for, which speaker is a better option? From what I gather around these boards, the 6's are going to offer me a big improvement in mid-bass. Has anyone heard the 4's in comparison to the 6's? Are the 4's adequate for music or are they severely lacking in bass? Are the 6's really worth the extra $50? I'm really not an audiophile so I won't nitpick the performance too much. Just want a nice set of speakers to play music.
Well, I'd appreciate any input. This is going to be my first investment in audio equipment and hopefully it'll be a good one. Thanks a lot for your help!
