Since you have both, why not hook them up and do a comparison and post your thoughts?

I want to purchase one though.

last week I compared CSi40 and CSi5 side by side, tho not very carefully...
I turned off all the other speakers and listend to CSi40 and CSi5 only, watching TV and listening a couple CDs. I could not tell the difference by my system.

BTW: receiver is onkyo 501

The difference between the CSi40=CSi5 is in the tweeter...The tweeter in the most recent RTi/CSi series is in my opinion, has a cleaner, clearer, more detailed sound to it.

I couldn't hear much difference/improvement in the mids though. But the overall sound of the 5 was an improvement, but not day/night...

Well, since I just bought a CSi40 off Mike, I will have chime in. I have listened to both and thought that the 5 was brighter sounding, but not necessarily any more clear. I personally like the more mellow highs of the 2003 RTi line. Bottom line, neither speaker is better IMHO, they just sound slightly different. You won't go wrong with either as long as you match them with their own kind. (2003 RTi line or 2004 RTi line)

**** The following post is based on opinion of the RTixxx line (RTi70, i100, i38, etc, etc), if you feel you may be offended, please do not read ****

The CSi40 uses a Silk tweeter, if you read some of my past post concerning this tweeter - I do not particularly like it.

To me it has a very muffled sound, and has no detail while still being continuously bright/harsh. However the details it misses are mainly centered around the acoustic guitar, drums, and anything with any real 'high-frequency detail'. This is to my findings, in my room with my system.

The new tweeter, I have heard it one time, and it sounds completely different. If you plan to listen to multi-channel music, then I suggest you get the CSi5, if you just listen to movies - then the CSi40 will more than suffice.

The CSi5 also uses a different midbass with a more robust surround (from pictures - has a larger 'roll' which may allow more excursion, dunno)

This is all my opinion, many people like the Silk tweeter in that line and that is fine.

You may also want to check out the older line with the Tri-Lam or even better yet, the line before it...(RT5, RT16, etc etc)
