View Full Version : Carver M1.oT on its way. Little insight

So i came across a pretty good deal on one of these and just wanted to get some input on what you think about it. Do you have one? Whats it hooked up to? etc... Got rid of the GFA 535 as i thought it lacked on the M 10's. Have read and heard of Carver being good but then again i thought GFA ment Great Fu%^$ing Amp :) Will let you know my findings when i get it.

The 1.0 is a good amp, getting up there in age though, with few factory replaceable parts.

When does it arrive?

Hopefully tomorrow so i can have for the weekend. Doubt i hold on to it for a long long time as i want the Rotel from Jesse. The ol get gear listen and move on :)

The m1.0t was the subject amp in the stereophile Carver Challenge.

The only issues that I've heard of is a *thump* when shutting down from the cap discharge. This was also a popular DJ amp so many of them have been ridden hard over the years.

Well guy used for 2 chanel and upgraded to something else. I get that same thump on the GFA 535 when i turn it off. I'll give you my input when it arrives.

Ok got it in this morning at work so havent listened to it but was looking and one of the bind post was replaced and seems loose. havent got a chance to take aprt and see whats up but are these bind post easy to change out? If so is there a universial size that fit these? Any info will help. Thanks

Yes and no on 'easy' to change out. Not sure on the 1.0, but I know on other Carver amps I owned, there was a mess of small resistors wired to the posts on the inside.

Write it all down, and take some pictures so you can get it back exactly like it was - should you decide to change the posts out.

Another question was it has a brown cord...doesnt look orig. Is it possible that the amp can get fried if the cord isntthe right rating?

Possible for the cord to fry for sure. Wouldn't think the amp would. Worst I can imagine is that if it can not get what it needs from the wall socket, might go into clipping prematurely.... Just guessing here...
