hi ppol im 1st time here; i got this speaker its good sounding, i used this for 2nd system,since i sold my amp. sometime i thinking selling this,vintage stuff, this is the part of dad collection given 2 me,if any one interested give me a sign,

Hey, There Im a new member, i own a pair of SDA SRS 3.1lt, and need the owners manual and some help with this:
I use an Ashly amp 1000 M with 100 watts per channel at 8 Oms and 160 for 4 Oms
Is it enough for move the speakers and get the best sound?
Is it necesary to use a sub woofer like JBL SB-5?

You may be able to get the manual by contacting Polk Audio directly. As for the rest, if you like the way they sound, then you're set. If not, then it's time to go shopping.

I use an ASHLY 1000M amplifier with an NAD preamp and a pair of SDA SRS 3.1lt and a Pionner CD player.
I think my amp is not enought because i broked my tweeters 5 times.
I have an JBL sub woofer SB-5 but i am not using it now.

Got a web site for that ASHLY amp? I did a web search and found nothing useful. I've never heard of them.

Jose,
Your 3.1TL's are 8-ohm speakers and are rated at 500 Watts per channel.
While they can be driven with as little as 50 Watts, they benefit greatly from a quality 250 WPC amp.

For a number of years I drove my 3.1tl's with a Denon 5700 at 170 wpc and never knew they would sound better with more watts. I upgraded to 425 wpc and they do give more depth and soundstage. Don't overdrive with lower wattage amps just enjoy them at the level correct for your reciever / amp. I have had mine since new in 1991. I liked them so much that I bought the
1.2's just a few months ago and can't believe I waited so long to do it. ENJOY!

It's suggested they not be less than 6 feet apart. They should at least 3 feet from any side walls. Distance from the back wall will depend, the closer they are the more bass you get, 5 or 6 inches seems to work well. Do not toe in SDA speakers.

I currently drive 1.2TLs with a vintage 200WPC Phase Linear, and the meters rarely go over 30-40W when it's fairly loud. Probably the highest I've managed to drive it was up to around 130W on _extremely_ dynamic passages, and that was with pipe organ music I could clearly hear in the basement (listening room is on second floor.) Had to wear shooting earmuffs to go into the room and shut it off.

Granted I have a small and accoustically live house, but unless you're really blasting them they don't require massive amounts of power to sound good. I'd say a 200-250WPC would be all that's needed in most circumstances.

Reminds me of a fellow on AK who used to drive his with a McIntosh MC2500 (500WPC) and he said the meters barely twitched at normal listening level.

Finally I bought a Mcintosh MC 7200 200 wpc for my Polk Audio 3.1 LT and sound great, but i would like more basses, can I use a JBL control 5 sub woofer for a better result?
I am constructing a room for listening but i dont have so much space it will be 13 foots by 9. Is it going to be a problem this kind of space?

That's not what the Polk Audio manual says...

Compatible with 8ohm equipment, I believe. Nominally a 6ohm load.

Jose, how many inches away from the back wall are your speakers?

About 15 inches from a cristal wall, maybe the reflecion of basses over cristal is not good enought, that is the reason because i am going to build a new space 13 x 9 and put the speakers 3 feet from side walls and 6 between them and I will have 6 feets away from the speakers for my listening place.

Jose, the reason your bass is on the light side is the speakers are too far away from the back wall. Try moving them closer, 5 or 6 inches away.

What about listening room sizes? 9 feet by 13 feet is it enought?
I will sit to 6 feet from speakers with a wall right behind me. Distance between speakers 6 feet too, 3 feet away from side walls and 5 inches from the back wall

He is right closer to the wall helps the 3.1 tl's .Also check the screws on the individual speakers for tightness.Some of mine were a bit loose and this helped the base.I power mine with Carver tfm 24 "s vertically bi amped .
