Was there , or is there a problem with the Denon 3805? Why do I see some models "refurbished". I have a chance to buy one new for $800 US and wanted to make sure I wasn't getting a reject....Thanks

CJ....wow, you are giving Sid a run for the money with post counts......
EVERY product out there probably has a refurbished version. Just didnt' pass specs in the first run for either mechanical or aesthetic purposes so the factory re-tested things to make sure all is working.
Buy it and be fine with it.....but know that if you're buying it online, you probably don't have any sort of warranty unless they're an authorized place to purchase from online according to Denon

Thanks Brett....between being on strike this past week and home sick with the flu this weekend I have had lots of time on my hands...
i guess I am taking a chance buying on line. I may go into the local Denon dealer and tell him what i found on line and maybe he will match or come down a little. here the 3805 is $1500 Canadian, 2805 is $1000..... $800 US is equal to $1000 Canadian right now so as you see, I can get the 3805 for the price of the 2805 on line...more power for those RTi12's!!

So Brett, if it's factory sealed it's OK? Was there a batch they made early on with troubles that needed refurbishing?

Like I said.......EVERY electronics manufacturer has units that have problems for one reason or another.
Refurbished units have at least gone through testing to make sure they pass the spec test, so I wouldn't worry about either or..........
One last thing though.......ultimately, the 3805 isn't going to give you as much power as you should for the RTi12's.......

Hello CJT,
I was looking at the 3805 too. A couple of things that you might be interested on: 1) eCost has the same refurbed 3805 for just $699 (USD) with free shipping too!. 2) the warranty for the refurbed Denon reciever is just 90 days instead of the 2 years that come with a BN unit.
Hope this helps.

so you would trust a refurbished product? How do you know it is done correctly?

CJT,
I have bought refurbished products before and it is a mixed bag for me (If the extended warranty is not much, i'd go and buy it). To tell you frankly, I was ready to pick up the 3805 (BTW, another place that sells cheap refurbished is www.pcmall.com), but the 90 days warranty kinda turned me off (a bit). For something that expensive, having no warranty to protect you is not a good feeling.
just my $0.02.

EDIT: When you have one question, don't ask it in all the different forums. People get irritated answering the same question, by the same person, in too many areas.....makes us think we're wasting our time......Good luck with whatever you decide on.

I was just seeing what people's experiences are with refurbished products...a salesman here told me a refurb is better because you know for sure it has been thoroughly looked after.
And what are these forums for if you can't ask for some advice? I guess I am repeating myself sometimes....will keep it to a minimum..just wanted to get answers and wasn't sure if you experts read ALL threads.

Chill. See my edited post above.....
There's no problem asking questions........asking the same question to every person, in every section pisses people off.....
Also, you need to pay attention to where you're posting the threads.....Yamaha vs. Denon comparison threads don't go in the Speakers Forum......
