From years gone by, and up to the present, who in your opinion is the hardest hitting football player of all time? For me, I would have to go with Ronnie Lott of San Francisco fame.

Yup, Lott would definately be up near the top. I still gotta go with Atwater for just that one play... :D
Of course the REAL LT should win, but then I curse him for making us listen to Joe Theisman for more years than anyone should endure.

Don't forget about Jack Lambert... We need more like him in the NFL!

Isn't Atwater the guy Bo Jackson ran over at full speed like he wasn't even there? :D
How about Dick Butkus?

That would be Brian Bosworth.
Mike Singletary was pretty tough hitter.

Definitely Lott. And he would be considered one of the tuffest players ever, considering he had his finger cut off so that he wouldn't miss his next game!!!
Do offensive players count? Two running backs come to mind; Earl Campbell and Walter Payton.

The one thing that comes to mind was during the Philly/Giants game earlier in the year, Eli Manning got some mop up time since they sucked. He was running across the field and the Eagles defender was running the opposite way and really nailed him hard. Eli never saw it... serves him right for whining so much.

Old school answer:
Chuck Bednarik almost ended Frank Gifford in the early 60's... and Chuck was the NFL's last, full-time, 2-way player.

jdhdiggs,
You have to be talking about Atwater's hit on the "Nigerian Nightmare" or whatever that big, KC runningback's name was...
"You cryin' baby? You Cryin'?" What a time to be miked up for NFL films...

Dick B. is most definite in my top five bonecrushers!
I would also like to give honorable mention to Mike Singletary. Hey guys, nobody mentioned John Lynch of Tampa Bay. He could clean someones clock for sure!

Chuck Cecil - evertime they showed him on TV he was bleeding! A head hunter some would say.
