Is there such thing yet that will switch from a dig coax to optical. the reason is I need to run from my dig cable box a coax but only have optical plugs left. My receiver is the rxv 540 only has one dig coax, my dvd player marantz 4200 only has dig coax...my second dvd player used as cd player only is a toshiba which has optical and coax. so I am stuck !! I need to run the dig coax from the dig box an somehow run it into an optical.....

help please and thanks

just use a Y adapter to put 2 of the coax cables into the same input. Just make sure that only one of the coax equipped pieces of equipment is turned on at the same time

I have purchased from BSW and they are real cool. Give them a call.

Very cool item, but $239.... A Y adapter will be no more than $20

Help me understand how splitting a dig coax turns it into light?

I would not recommend spitting digital without balancing due to the jitter that would result. Slight variation in impdance would kill ya.

and how would I balance.

the Y adapter is an intersting way never thought of that. but Hbomb believes it may harm. in which way ?

so you do not suggest this if I only use one at a time

Willow I thought you need coax to tos link??? what am I missing here?

By using a Y with 75Ohm coax will most definetly change the impedance of the runs.

I only have toslink inputs left but If I can share the 1 dig coax input on my receiver .....and by changing impedance what would this do...even if only one at a time isused

you get many reflections within the cable that carries the pcm to the decoder which will cause jitter, signal attenuation and the likes. This will make your music sound like shite. Thats why they make balanced devices like the one I provided in the link.

It looks like you guys figured out what I meant by using the Y adapter. I was only suggesting a possibly method. I don't know about stuff like the jitter issue.

I'd still give the Y adapter a try. If it works, and you don't notice a problem in sound, then there you go, that's your solution. But if it gives lousy performance, then you'll need to try something else.

I bought that coax to toslink converter from ratshack and it works very well I now have dig cable.....and our cable CO has all channels from 1-99 digital !!!! yipeee it makes a difference in the sound much cleaner ,clear and louder....the receiver is turned down to -60dbls for normal watching.
