I finally got around to watching this on dvd.
Region 3
dts 5.1 Mandarin/ Eng Subs
PQ = blown out at times, lots of beautiful scenes
SQ = excellent dts track
It's not an action movie, It's a love story movie
If you like the style of Hero, you should enjoy this one as well. I'll leave this open to discussion after you guys see it.

Heard it's opening first in New York and L.A. on December 3rd. Then it opens wide December 17 (up here in Canada).
Heard it's a love story too intertwined with some great action scenes. Had a chance to pick up a bootleg but I'll wait for the big screen and give comments.
Here's a "teaser" trailer for those who missed it.

I saw Hero and Crouching Tiger both as love stories with action scenes. That's kinda the intent... again, in my mind. :)
Is Hero coming out in DTSes here or just DTS? It better be discrete 6.1!!! :D :p

Hero was more of a propaganda movie as you'll notice any movie out of mainland china has such slants. There's a lot of people who'd wish he assainated. The love story really wan't much compared to CTHD. HOFD you could say is the typical chinese love story. Zhang Ziyi is all over the place, it's hard not to find a movie without her...supposedly she's learned english and will start to role in US movies, there's one she''s doing now with Michelle Yeoh.

She's in the title role of Spielberg's "Memoirs of a Geisha" with Michelle Yeoh and Gong Li.

Now for something House of Flying Daggers related ! ;)
I know some of us read the digitalbits.com so here's a quote from those guys.....
"Well... I'll tell you, House of Flying Daggers is absolutely outstanding. Again, it's another one of those movies that I don't really want to tell you too much about. It really deserves to be seen without preconceptions. It is very much a love story, every bit as stylized as HERO but in a somewhat different way. The film is lush and visually gorgeous. And I would say that while HERO is a little more intellectually rewarding, House of Flying Daggers is much more emotionally satisfying. It's a much smaller, more personal story in its way, and yet remains epic in quality. And here's the best news... it's a Sony Pictures Classics release, so when it hits DVD you know it'll look amazing (unlike HERO). Matt and I both liked the film a great deal. It'll be released in theaters in the U.S. on December 3rd. Don't miss it "

I saw House of the Flying Dagger on VCD. The picture quality isn't that great, and the sub-title in English is really hard to read. Overall, not a bad movie at all.

SWEET! Wouldn't mind testing out that flying dagger! :D
Apparently I heard this is also a much better, remastered disc in picture quality. If it is than I'm in on it.
Edit - I just noticed the bit rate illustrations! Time to visit Chinatown!
