I know the black ones are vinyl, just wondering from someone who may have the cherry model of the R50.

I saw pictures of them somewhere or another, looked pretty darn good!
I doubt, unless you looked REAL close you would be able to tell they were vinyl!

I can't speak for the vinyl on the R series (as its been awhile seen I looked at one) , but I can tell you the vinyl thats done on the Monitor series is xint . Ive compared side-by-side instore and at home the vinyl on a Monitor verses wood of the RTi line and Polk has done a great job with the vinyl coverings . Unless you get right up and VERY close to the speaker (1 foot or less) to compare the two , you would be very hard pressed to tell the differance . Again , kudo's to Polk for doing what I consider a great job on their vinyl coverings . I must also say I only compared the black vinyl to black wood and not the cherry .

In case anyone cares, I have the following R50s:
AM0551-A black wood veneer (old original model)
AM0556-A black vinyl (newer model)

Yeah, I have the newer R50s in black. They do in fact look nice. I was considering buying another set for my rear surrounds. I mean, why not at their current price? Anyway, I was thinking about the cherry ones for this next set.

At the current prices, the R50s can't be beat.
If the R50 cherry vinyl is like the R30 cherry vinyl (good chance because the black vinyl is the same). The R30 cherry vinyl is a nice burled long grain cherry image. On smooth vinyl with a slight smooth grain pressed impression (random speccle impression, like from sanding), as opposed to the black which has a deep impression that mimics the grain. In other words, it is a good fake cherry finish.
I have black R30s for my surrounds and cherry R30s for my rear surrounds.

......The R series brethren....We are the red-headed stepchildren of the supposed online audiophiles. That's ok, though. WE know how incredible our budget speakers sound.

I saw the cherry R50s today and I have to say they looked very nice. They looked great naked. Unlike my R40s that have a black front panel holding the tweeter and woofs, the R50 had a cherry front. With the black drivers sitting in there it looked awesome. The quality of the cherry was much better than my R40s also. Much less of a red to it, and much less glossy. I thought they looked great.

There's something about the R series, I've got the R20, and I can' leave em, Traded off my first pair for RTi6s, and soon after, I bought another pair of R20 because I missed them so much :)

Hey Mike,
How are those R20's treating you? Haven't heard from you since I sold them to you. Everything O.k.?
