View Full Version : RT800i vs RT2000p
I'm looking into buying either a pair of RT800i or RT2000p as new front speakers.The rest of my system is;
cs400i center
fx500i rear surround
rt55i side surrounds(trying to find the best place for these
Denon 3802
12inch 100 watt powered sub
Does anyone have a feel on what would make better front speakers? Also if I went with the RT2000p would I still need the powered sub? Thanks for any advise

I'd go for the 800i's. They're timbre matched to the rest of your speakers and will provide for a seamless sound stage.
It is more about taste. While the 800i has the same driver compliment as the 55, the tuning of the 800i is still different, so really, it wont matter which speaker you choose as far as timber matching is concerned.
Some people enjoy the percieved "tightness" of the 800 speaker. If you use your system for music quite often, then it all boils down to preference. For theater, it should be ano brainer - the 2000's are sick. Will you need another sub? Maybe. Depends on your hunger for bass and the size of your room. It never hurts to have beefy mains and the 2000's definately fit that bill. But the 800's are no slouch either.
Either one will do, my vote goes out to the 2000's. Of course, I am a little bias there. :)

Go with the 800i's or 800's and invest in a more powerful sub.IMHO:)

I have two pairs of 800i's, I just sold a pair of 1000i's and I've listened long and hard to the 2000's.
The 800's win hands down in clarity and detail of image. As mentioned, get a better stand alone sub, to handle your low end.
The 800's and 400 are a match made in audio heaven.

Move the 55i's to the front and replace them with another pair of 55i's or 35i's.

I use 800i's both for music and movies and I love the clarity and clean detailed, warm sound they have. I've bi-wired them and hooked them with NAD C272 150w x 2 (love this amp!)
Wow when you ask for bass, they sound like a dual 10" sub side by side when I play music at -10 db below REF level in DIRECT STEREO mode, In this mode SUB is automatically disables and all the bass is redirected to the mains, full range in other words. I have Velodyne CHT-15 and I don't even bother to use it for the music!!!
A++++++ speaker, RT800i's one of the most beautiful and best sounding speakers from Polk Audio IMHO! period.
Love the glossy black oak finish and the solid built quality of 800i's best example of a high quality speaker that should look like. Too bad Polk don't make speakers they use to!
