Hi..
i have just bought 2x MM2104 subs and 2x MMC690 6*9 speak.
And i have a amp problem, cus i hear so much crap. Not one of the shops i have spoken to have said or recommended the same amp, i am so confused. I just want to know which amp\amps are the best for the job?? i am concidering one monoblock mtx thunder801D for the subs, and a mtx thunder342 for the speakers..
my email is: frholter@broadpark.com
do not think about budget.. just tell me which top 3-4 amps you would use?
thanx all..

First, there is no need to double-post. One thread is all you need. You already got some excellent recommendations (zapco, xtant, brax, helix, usamps) so I don't understand why you're asking the exact same question again...
Second, let's be realistic here. If money truly was no object, you would not have gotten Polk. True, I feel that Polk is the best IN THEIR PRICE RANGE, but there is admittedly much better out there, at a cost.
If money was no object, you'd have bought Focal Utopias or Rainbow comps, not some Polk 6x9's. The reason you're getting such wildly varying amp recommendations is because you're not setting a price limit. There is no one "best" speaker or amp once you get in the high-end range. It is completely based on personal listening preferences and quality of install. Unless you're willing to throw down $10k on the "best" amps out there, for the love of pete, SET A PRICE RANGE!

Umm...that wasnt me. That was Austin.
Hal - The 801 is way too much amp for those subs. That thing puts out neary over 900 watts which would shred those Momos. Get the 421 instead. It will put an easy 250 clean watts all day long to those subs which is where they ought to be.
If youre wanting to spend $500 on each amp then go with Xtant. The 4.4 and 6.1. Both are $550 each and the best you can get.

I've been working on making my fiberglass door pods the past week and have been breathing too many resin and paint fumes! Tonight it really got to me and gave me a huge headache. However, I'm done with one pod and only have to sand and paint the other one. The end IS IN SIGHT! I'm so excited because they look so dang good. And this is my first EVER attempt at fiberglass, so I'm especially proud. I'll put up pics once I'm finished tomorrow.

Congratulaionts, AustinKP! I can't wait to see the pics. How do you go about doing fiberglass? I have no clue how it's done, but it interests me; I might wanna try it one day.....

Two 4 ohm woofers wired in parallel will give you a 2 ohm load.

Thom - I know, but that was $20 I didn't want to spend :) I hate spending money that I don't have to... If I ever did something like this long-term, I'd definitely get one though. Plus a full-body suit or something. That fiberglass dust when you're sanding really itches. Sure is fun though :D

-Cody I did. The dust still finds its way into your sleeves somehow. Makes my wrists itch :( However, fiberglassing isn't extremely expensive. My total money going into this is under $30, including the paint. Granted, I did get the glass mat from school for free since this is my "final project" for one of my classes. Also, my wife loves to sew, and just happened to have some stretchy fleece laying around. Plus, my father-in-law is a finish carpenter so his garage is *full* of scrap wood, so my MDF rings were also free. :) My main costs were:
1 qt resin: ~$15 (I think I got ripped here, but it was the only place close by where I could find it.)
1 tube Bondo: $7
5 paintbrushes: $1.50
1 can aerosol Rhino Liner: $8
Overall, not too bad I think.

my bank account currently reads $26.29...
that and i might need more wood...a sheet of MDF=$20
money left=$6.29

I don't think my wife would have let me spend any money on it either if it wasn't for my "final project" in one of my classes. :)

Hal - MTX amps are severly underrated. If they claim 100 watts you can expect nearly 200! So if theyre claiming 400x2 then its a safe bet youre actually getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 475+.
Now the MM2104 are 300 watt subs. The 2124 is the 400 watt model. The 2124 would be a better match for the 801. The 2104 are not up to it tho.
Austin - Get a life. Quit being the typo police! :p

No, Cody is notorious for taking quotes of mine and then, shall we say, taking liberties with them.
