As a teaser does, it just teases. Not much here but I am still looking forward to this film.

If this movie was anything like the book, I wouldnt expect it to be anything past a good nap...

They were shooting this here in my town last weekend and I have heard they will do another round this month. I missed the last one but will try to see the next one.

I have it on tape... classic stuff.

The new TV spot is cool. The shot of the overhead highway being blown apart looks real sweet!
I have high hopes for this one.

Well I was going to shy away, because I had no real interest in it...until now.
Looks to be one of two blockbusters this summer.

That looks awesome. Going to make for one excellent DVD.
With this, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride this year may be the most I'll have gone out to a theater in years.

I kind of wish TB would have been involved in some aspect in the Batman Begins movie. He's the one who really got that all started and the two Batman movies he did were the best...
That Corpse bride looks cool, almost a mix between TNBC and Vincent...

Looks like its going to either be phenominal or a utter piece of... you know what. I enjoy Sc-fi, liked the original book, and havn't found a Spielberg movie I havn't like. I'm just saying, even the teaser tells me that there will be no middle ground with WoW.
If anyone wants to see more of the movie, www.rottentomatoes.com had pix taken during shooting: including the post invasion landscape of earth. One word of warning: most aren't that impressive (ie the Martian "vines" really need that finished CG work).

The original movie with Gene Barry was a damn classic. Great special effects for the time.

Just got back from seeing it, and I loooooved it. It was everything I expected. Typical Spielberg, but I loved it. Some expected the acting to be horrible, but I thought it was quite good. Cruise seemed to fit the part of a dirtball father quite well. When that machine comes up from underground there is gonna be some serious bass. I could hear the movie theater subwoofers bottoming constantly. I thought the appearance of the aliens, machines and the landscape they created was really really well done. It's not easy to come up a good, not your run of the mill alien, that people won't laugh at. I also liked the atypical ending that didn't involve humans being superior in some way.

Anyone happen to notice the NAD stereo in the guys apartment? I couldn't tell what kind of speakers he had because they never fully showed them. Kinda martin loagn shaped but it looked like a cloth grille so I'm not really sure. Anyway, somethin to look out for :)

I thought that was a NAD, but wasn't quite sure. I couldn't make out the speakers, either. The movie itself was pretty good. As much as I hate Tom Cruise right now, he really did give an amazing performance.

I wasn't planning on seeing this in the theater but my daughter is spending the night at her cousins so my wife and I have a date night and this is the perfect romantic movie to go see.

I give this one a 9 out of 10. Sci-Fi film making at it's best. Very well done and excellent acting by all.

OK. Well you get this great build up of this awesome machine that looks cool as hell! Then it starts zapping people and its freaking badass! Im stoked! I cant wait for the rest of the movie!!
OK! Now we're off........to a stupid "father cant connect with his kids" suck ass chick flick drama!
There is about 10% badass machines and special effects and 90% whinny bratty kids and a father thats trying to bond with them. Who gives a fuck?
I kind of had this fear when we first get to meet these bastards but thought "nah, Spielberg wouldnt do this crap again". Boy was I wrong.
We continuously get to see them fight and constantly make the situation worse (worse than the Jurassic Park kids) and just generally act stupid and annoying! After about 20 minutes youre rooting for them to get zapped! And Cruise trying his best to bond with them only to fall flat.
The scene of him trying to sing a lullaby is where I drew the line.
Basically this is 'Stepmom' with a couple spaceships.
I give it 3 out of 10. I shouldve gone to see Batman.

Its worth seeing just not worth paying $16 to see it. Wait for the DVD.
If James Cameron had directed this it wouldve been effing great! And I can bet you it wouldnt have had any stupid kids in it either. What is up with Speilberg and kids?
Oh yeah, as if movie theaters werent raping people enough, now they have a $.99 surcharge if you buy your tickets with a credit or debit card?
What? Arent they making enough money with the $10 Cokes??!?

Tom Cruise's whole lecturing/demeaning commentaries as of late have turned me off from any of his movies. I guess it kinda sucks to have a midlife crisis the whole world gets to be part of.

Yeah, if Cameron had directed this, it would have kicked so much ass. I enjoyed the film, myself, and thought the effects were pretty neat, but I wished they had taken the "Indepenence Day" approach. We've all seen the family story in "Signs", and frankly, I think they did it better in that movie.

I noticed the NAD stuff as well. I can see that stuff in his apt/house a lot more than the Omega watch he was wearing. I just can't see a dock worker with his apparent wages to wear a $5000 watch.
Overall I liked the movie. I ddin't like any of the characters(not talking about the actors). There was no attachement to anyone as a character, so it was fine by me if the aliens took over the whole planet and annialated everyone. The little girl just made me want
For the most part though, I didn't figure out the ending until it actually occurred.
The visual effects were good and the sound was top notch. Definetly a good HT demo movie.
Overall, it fell behind Batman and Star Wars(only by a slim margin) to be a good movie this summer.

x2!
I have a problem with ANYBODY from Hollywood lecturing. Just because youre making bazillions of dollars for pretty much nothing and you feel guilty, I dont wanna hear about it! (michale moore, martin sheen, tim robbins, susan sarandan, sharon stone, alec baldwin, rob reiner, danny glover, ted danson, whoopy goldberg, robin williams.........)

I don't have a problem with people having a different opinion, but if you saw Tom Cruise on the Today show with Matt Lauer (download it if you didn't see it), you would be amazed at how someone can be THAT arrogant about something they don't have ANY firsthand knowledge about......
When opinions are presented as factual BS and in a way that the person believes you to be somehow ignorant of the subject is what really pisses me off. Matt Lauer did one hell of a job containing himself, because I would have knocked Cruise the eff out had he talked to me that way.

Although Cruise isnt an ideal spokesperson, he is right about some things.
ADD is a crock and so is Ritalin. Doping up kids because they act hyper is obscene!
Too many people these days need to feel they are overcoming some obstacle and when they cant find anything better they become "depressed" or "anxious" or "bi-polar". I believe all these are crocks. Sure everybody gets depressed but nobody needs to dope themselves up!
I have a buddy that became "depressed" so he went to a shrink, the shrink said,"yup, youre depressed and you have an illness. Now take these pills and come see me every week at $100 a pop"! So this quack had my buddy on 4 different types of medication!!! So now he's on disability and cant work.....because he's depressed!
And bi-polar! Dont get me started on this. One day youre happy and the next day your mad and the next day your sad. WELCOME TO THE REAL EFFING WORLD! I never wake up in the same mood. Hell sometimes I start the day in a great mood and then by 3:00 Im so pissed off and grouchy nobody can stand to be around me (kinda like now! ;) . Thats because life is a bitch! If I won the lottery and could sit on a sailboat sipping tropical drinks with little umbrellas in them Id be happy all the time!
Bottom line is if youre depressed or whatever just work thru it. Turing to Valium or whatever "wonder drug" they have out now is no different than becoming an alcoholic or drug addict.

I know this all has zilch to do with the movie.......sorry......
I don't take issue with the arguement about those people abusing or misusing medication, though a patient isn't obligated to take ANYTHING they don't want to, and if people just pop whatever the doctors write on paper, that's on them. Get a second opinion if you're not comfortable with the doctors assessment.
For Tom Cruise to sit around and try to explain that he's more adept at knowing what's involved with Postmortem Depression than someone who actually CAN encounter it is amazing to me. One of the most severe cases that I remember publically was Marie Osmond several years ago when she ran out on her husband and (i think) around 6 or 7 kids because of that. I'm not saying medication is the answer all the time.....just like Tom shouldn't claim that vitamins will always fix it.
Also, Cruise is a moron to make a claim that "There's no such thing as a chemical imbalance". That sounds like he believes that there is genetic harmony in our world, and we have the whole Southern US to prove that wrong.....lol....
Anyway, the day he gets a PhD and knows what the hell he's talking about I'll give him cred, but for now, he's an actor that's talkin out his ass about stuff he has absolutely zero ability to properly ascertain.

Went to the theater yesterday with a few friends and saw it. Overall I thought it was pretty good except I was a little dissapointed with the ending. It didn't really explain anything about what happened or why it happened (trying to not give anything away to those that havn't seen it already).
I too noticed the NAD stuff but it was shown for about 5 seconds so it was kinda hard to tell what exactly it was. What a beautiful car.... I woulda kicked that kids ass if he took my car like that.
