I need opinions from anybody who owns or has owned an onkyo m501 amplifier.My neighbor is thinking about getting one of the bay,how will it hancdle large 4ohm speakers...cerwin vega d9's?

It ought to drive them just fine, but like every other amp in the world, it'll never make them sound good.

Thanx for the info,he has stopped his bidding,and is now looking into some used carver amps!

The Onkyo M1 has very decent power and a nice warm sound. Looks pretty decent too. I had one and liked it very much. If you can find one for less than or equal to $150 shipped it's a very good deal.

We're not talking about the amp, it's the speakers that'll never sound good.

OOOPS:rolleyes: they sound alright,not a an audiophile for sure just big "detroit rock city"speakers.Their fun when ya throw in some live foghat and try to knock pictures off the walls!And I have to say...gobbs and gobbs of bass...takes me back to my teen years,I hafta to be honest,every time he fires em up,I want to break into some air guitar:(

That's good cause you're going to have a tough time getting realistic air flute or air violin material out of those C-V's.
