Monitor 10's

Just picked a pair of these up for $125. Hopefully a decent deal. Very clean except tweeter in one is shot so can anyone suggest a decent replacement that won't be too expensive. I believe these to be the first 10's so perhaps a sL2000 tweeter.

When I got my pair of 10's one of my tweets was not working. I replaced the fuse (exposed on back of speaker) and it sprang to life. I could tell by looking that the fuse was damaged, maybe you could take a look and see what's doin'. It's been said that the tweeters you have (peerless) are very much worth keeping, so see if you can get her working again. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply...I checked the fuse and it was indeed blown. I replaced it but the tweeter just makes a small hissing sound, not at all like the other.

Can you post a better pic of the passive radiator. Something seems odd to me.

congrats on your monitor 10's. From the pics.. they look like they are original 10's to me. I could be wrong.. but they look like very early model 10's.

Peerless tweeter is very highly sought after. and it looks like you got your up and running again. nice work.

let us know how they sound after you have some time with them.

the drivers look different than the ones in Loud & Clears 10's. were there different PR's throughout the years of monitor 10's ?

I think the difference is the fact one is clean and one is not... ;)

But the PR does have a different color to it, regardless or cleanliness :)

We both have the original Monitor 10's. However, I seem to recall that the original 10's had paper passives, whereas later iterations had some coating on them. This, and the fact that they're (my passives) really minty, leads me to believe that my 10's had their passives replaced at some point with a later version that's coated. I could be way off here, just a guess.

the paasive are indeed non coated paper. I just picked them up and am cleaning them as soon as I get some time :D . I'll repost some more pix when I get them in shape. They also have tags on the back with a handwritten 10 and initials of the person who checked them. I have them hooked up to my Onkyo 601 now but I have an older Pioneer ELite A88x i may hook them up to.

PR's on the original Monitor 10's were 10" and uncoated. Later PR's were coated and had bigger/heavier 'dustcaps' (actually weight-loading to set the Fs of the passive).

The very original Monitor 7's had uncoated 8" PR's by the way.
Haven't seen any of those for a long, long time...
