I have a SVS cs20-39 and want to use a RT3000p amp to power it. Is it necessary to build a box around the amp? Is there any danger of sparks or fire if I just stand it next to the sub? I do have the volume control adapters for the sub. Thanks for any advice, Jeff

It would be a definite safety measure to put a box around it, or at least somehow impede the possibility of someone or something being able to touch the electronics.

Yes, there is a definite possible danger is just having lying around. There's the chance someone might bridge a connection with their body and get some juice flowing through them. Its an interesting feeling, but since it makes your heart race, I don't recommend it (I've done it too many times!).

Thanks. Anyone have any suggestions or tips in building a box?

I built one that sits on top of my sub. It's pretty straight foreward, just make sure you put some good rubber feet on it.

Here's the under side.

That is a beautiful job! Is there a laminate on it? Thanks, Jeff

That's a nice looking box you made. My plate amp is enclosed al the way around, so I just set it on the floor next to my CS-Ultra. I was thinking about making a box but my audio rack is full anyway.

Thank you, and yes that is laminate. I was thinking of enclosing it all the way around but I figured heat may be an issue so I left the bottom open so air could move around.
