Marble Slab?

Does anyone know a good place to order a custom-cut marble slab to be placed either underneath or on top of a subwoofer enclosure?

I would go with Granite and you can get it at most custom counter places or Home Depot.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I live in NYC, and I just got back from Home Depot. They didn't really have a marble selection except for floor tiles, but granite seems like a good choice for placing underneath. I did see a thick solid-wooden chopping board that would be a perfect fit either above or below. The wood is almost 2.5" thick and the piece is quite heavy. Asthetically, it would go nicely on top of the sub, to give it a nicer end-table motif (I rest a small plant on top of my sub), so I might just go with that.

How about some Home Depot marble contact paper with a double layer of MDF. Total cost about $15.

The most cost effective method is to get a scrap piece left over from cutting a kitchen sink hole.

Cabinet makers regularly have these leftovers.

The cheapest method is to spend about $3 on an 18" x 18" concrete paver in the gardening section of Home Depot or Lowes. Pay another $3 for some spray paint.

Hey guys, sorry for my ignorance. But could you fill me in on the benefit of utilizing a granite slab underneath and/or on top of you sub (and try to quantify such benefit)?
I have a PSW450, and just contemplating the granite slab after reading this post.

Quantify? No need to if you use the thing God gave ya between your ears. ;) With wooden floors, it can be a great benefit. The mass of the slab dampens the vibrations of the sub enclosure, thus keeping them from being transferred into the flooring. If the subs vibrations are transferred into the flooring, the flooring becomes a second speaker. With a concrete floor (slab), it would be of no benefit. Think of it as a subwoofer condom. It keeps the sub's "vibrations" from "penetrating" the flooring.

Mostly I've read...
- helps to not disturb neighbors living below
- may help to reduce muddiness and boominess
- may be a greater improvement for down-firing subs

I don't necessarily have complaints about my sub now. I was only asking since I'm always looking for improvements (aren't we all) ;) So maybe I'll pick one up if I find a slab real cheap somewhere, otherwise I might not worry about it.

After someone suggested the leftover countertop granite pieces, I realized a gentleman that attends church with me does this for a living.

I talked with him this evening and he can get me pretty much any size I need for my house and some of the other HT projects that I'm working on, and all for next to nothing.

So, if anyone around Memphis needs a granite slab for thier sub, or tower speakers for that matter, just let me know.

Just for your info, the granite is about 1.25 inches thick and weighs approximately 22lbs/sq ft.

Okie - I have the same type of hookup and had/have granite out the arse. It's all in who you know.

I'm assuming a finding a quarry within a decent drive of you is out of the question. If not, a quarry would be a great place!
