jm -- I read your old thread re: BPT vs. the Monster 3600. I was particularly intrigued by the comparison between the Tripplite Isobar ($40) and the 3600 ($500). You mentioned that there was a definite difference between the two. I recently "upgraded" from the TrippLite to the 3600 on my 2-channel system and did not notice any difference at all between the two power conditioners. Perhaps there are other factors at play such as type of components, quality of power cables, degree of "clean power," etc. I don't know. Nevertheless, it's good to hear you got great results from the BPT.

EB: the Tripplite I used (and still have in the garage somewhere) is from the early 90's and I believe was originally intended for computer use. It was primarily used for surge protection.

Yep. That's it. They have isolated filtering, which is what makes them work well. For the price, they can't be beat.

There are too many variables in this kind of testing, unfortunately it's still a subjective opinion. I'm all for cheaper solutions or more expensive options, but you have to research what you're buying extensively, and pick your battle.
Power conditioning? I could care less, my house is modern, and I don't have power issues to the point of audible noise. The MC unit I purchased was for surge protection, the power conditioning just happened to come with it.
Jmierzur's thread is an excellent example of someone at least taking the time and effort to show what they did personally, and to explain the results.

Agreed!
FWIW - I used an Adcom ACE-515, a MC 3600, and a Tripplite LCR-2400 for month. I have pretty dirty power in the apt. building I stay in while I am in IL working. The Tripplite LCR-2400 did the best job of quieting the AC noise, and not impacting SQ or PQ. The Adcom was pretty good, but not very close to the Tripplite. I'm going to try to be fair now, I always wondered if the MC unit was working correctly, even had it's owner help me check it out, but it seemed to do nothing for the AC quality, and the owner of it even brought over a MC 5000 series (can't remember the exact model) and it was better, but nothing close to the Tripplite. May not have been a fair and scientific analysis, but it's what worked for me.

Gentlemen, thank you for the kind words. Just trying to share with others what I found.
I live in a 'modern' house as well Dorokusai. I have no problems with power quality and was content with the system. My goal was to try to get the system to perform as best as it could. If the results from the BPT had not been so extreme, I may not have posted any comments.
Rotel two channel amp being upgraded. New amp should be in place next week. I may try the experiement again (between wall, Tripplite and BPT). After all, inquiring minds must know...

Jmierzur - It's always good when you find an unexpected benefit from something you spent money on....we should all be so fortunate.
