The Rotel should be a good choice for just about anything. I've seen good reviews of the Carver, but I seriously doubt you'll be asking yourself and 'what if's' wit the Rotel.

Based on my limited experience, I would actually recommend neither and get a stereo amp if you do music listening...for example, Rotel 1080 which sounds MUCH better than 1075 for music. Your receiver prob. has enough juice to run the surrounds and possibly center....good luck.

What is your DVD/cd player? Perhaps upgrade that first?

I second the Rotel. Plenty of power to run the speakers. I listen to alot of multichannel music. At pretty loud levels too. The 1075 is running my center and surrounds, one solid piece of equipment. It also looks good.:D
