Denon AVR-881 problem

I have a Denon AVR-881 (2000 model) and in the past 6 months on 3 seperate occasions the volume has turned itself up to max. Luckily I was home when this happened - did not damage my RT20p. Has anyone else experienced this type of SNAFU with other Denon AVRs? The tech center has not been able to diagnose the probelm for me.

This may be stupid and just a coincidence but the same thing was happening with my Sony CD player about 4 years ago. I would be sitting there listening to it and all of a sudden it would just turn the volume all the way up! After some troubleshooting, I traced it to the remote. I changed out the batteries and it hasnt done it since!
