Someone has offered to trade me a sherwood Rd7106 for my rxv 540. Would this trade benefit me what so ever? I know the 7106 has pre-outs but have any of you ever listened to sherwood? are they good ?

Please help.

The question you should ask yourself is, why does this person want to trade, how do they benefit. Answer those questions and I am sure you will come to your own conclusions.

The person who wants to trade owns an A/V business and this sherwood is previously owned as well. Just wondering if mechanically , receiver for receiver it's a good swap?

Can you try it out, first?

The important thing is not what WE think as we don't really know your particular situation, wants, likes etc....If YOU think it's a good idea and YOU think you would benefit, then go for it.

Are you unhappy with your current receiver and what benefits would the new one give you. That would be what I'd ask myself.

Mine is rated at 80WPC the other 100
mine no pre-outs the other has them all
mine no OSD the other one has OSD
mine 6ch ex/es the other 5ch no ex/es

I can try it before , just looking for feedback on this receiver.

20 wpc is inconsequential....

The preouts IS a nice feature to have, if you want to try adding a power amp later on.

OSD, IMO, is a convenience but that's about it...

6ch/es....eh, I'm happy with 5.1.

Those are my thoughts, I'd recommend giving it a spin and see what you think.

I know the watts are no biggie, but I would like to add an amp in the future.

what about build quality compared to thew yammie? Thats where I am looking for input ?

Take a look at the wesite and review from Sound and Vision about the current model to see if you like what see(hear).

Sherwood (http://www.sherwoodusa.com/prod_rd7108.html)

Hope this helps.

I guess if you can try it out, then if would be worth a listen.

Some of the low-end Sherwoods (not the Newcastles) really seem to have weak amps. They just seem to run out of steam, or at least the ones at my store do. Don't trade unless you can try it first.

How can I check out if they have weak amps ? what tests can be done ?
It's an older model RD7106, not the newcastles

PT what are your thoughts on them generally ? since you sell them
Thanks

I think the 7106 is an old model that doesn't have Dolby Pro Logic II. This means the rear left/right will have the same signal. This would be a step backward for you surround-sound wise.

"How can I check out if they have weak amps ? what tests can be done ?"

Its kind of like you start turning up the volume, then you realize you're out of volume knob before you get as loud as you want.

The opposite of this would be you start to turn it up and you get it as loud as you want and there's still a lot of volume knob left, I call this 'headroom'.

Not very technical, but that's how I explain it.

IMHO, I would keep the Yamaha instead of following through with this trade.
