Have you considered the Denon AVR1905/785? It is a good receiver and can be had around $300 if you watch. Woodyjacobs has one for sale here on the forum if you are interested.

The Onkyo TX-8511 is a 2 channel stereo only receiver with no pre-ins or outs.

Out of the group you listed at those prices, I would go for the Denon 3801.

You can get a brand-new Onkyo TX-8511 from J&R for $240.00 shipped.

yeah after i read reviews i realized the onyko is a 2 channel
do you think the denon 3801 would be noticible or would it be better to sell the receiver and amp and buy a nice avr for around
800-1000?

I have the rx-v995. Its a good receiver but I'm not sure it is your best choice with Polk speakers. I think a Denon might be a better match.

re510,
2+2 brought up a good point. Why replace a receiver with a receiver? Have you looked into a 5 channel amp as an option? Maybe something like an Outlaw, Adcom or B&K? You’ll get much better sound from something like that compared to another all in one receiver. I’m in the process of trying to do this myself but the I’m having a little trouble explaining to the wife why I want to use a $500 Yamaha receiver as a pre-amp and spend another $1500 or so on a separate 5 channel amp. Man they just don’t get it.

Yeah at this poiny i'm not sure which piece to upgrade the amp is pretty good. the receiver is ok too. I don't know which one to upgrade.
