I've been reading the reviews for this at audioreview.com. They say that with a few modifications, this sub can compare with those costing $500. Has anyone here ever owned it, or at least listened to it? There's a guy over at the htforum who's selling it for $100, and I'm really thinking about getting it.

I have an audiosource SW-5. 12 in. 150w. It now basically collects dust. Would'nt recommend.

The 15 was/is popular with the tweek crowd. I'd say it's worth every bit of $100.

One of the main reasons for wanting it is so that I can a little modding to it. I've never modded or tweaked before, and what better way to get started than with a measly $100 sub.

What kind of tweeks can be done to these? Maybe I can do the same to mine. Thanks.

i vaguely remember the info about tweaking these. i think they said replacing the speaker wire from the amp to the driver with a better, thicker grade wire actually did wonders alone (i guess it was a chep chincy wire stock). probably involved some bracing too, i can imagine a cheap 15" sub box being large, but with no bracing.

Replacing the stock wire with something thicker is one of the things you can do. Some have also lined the insides with sound dampening sheets, and put in some polyfill, and they all agree that the difference with these mods is incredible. Oh, putting spikes on the bottom of the sub is another suggestion. And best of all, it shouldn't cost anymore than $25 to do all of this.

I've heard one in a fairly big room with a high ceiling and 2 large openings. Did pretty well I think. The thing is kinda huge though. I'm not so sure how it would perform with low frequencies on a dvd but it was fine as far as SPL goes.
