So the CS400i's have this:

The CSi40's do not. How did polk change the csi40 to compensate? They sold for the same amount but were they in reality really different?

Not quite sure how they did it with the CSi40...

But the CSi5 has a 'floating' grill...

I'm sure Polk covered their tracks with the CSi40 though... maybe recessed the grill to bring the drivers closer to the grill...

I think the whole thing about anti-difraction (talking out my butt here) - it basically, they recessed the woofers within a baffle, and made a grill to fit around the baffle, and the grill and baffle acted as the front of the speaker, so basically the drivers sound radiated straight off, instead of hitting the edge of the grill, anti-diffration. Thats how I gathered it...

Dosnt really answer your question, maybe I'm just trying to figure out the anti-diffraction thing for myself ;)

Vr3MxStyler2k3 I have to give you major props on your website! Wow! but where are the polks?

What would "recessed the grill to bring the drivers closer to the grill" do?

Well basically, it would act as a 'baffle' -

You would have to recess the drivers though to keep them from hitting the grill.

Basically, it is the same thing they did with the CS400i - just without the baffle. Just moving the front forwards and mounting the grill level...

I dont think the CSi40 utilizes any of that technology...

And, thanks for the props on the website!

As for my Polks, I have had some Polks over my course of 3 years here...

RT25i, RT35i, RT5, RTi70, CS245i

And I have a pair of RT8s coming sometime next week. Miss the sound of the RT5. Recently switched over to Def Tech last year (around May or so)

I did notice that the back of the CSi40 has two powerports while the back of the CS400i has one. Maybie that is how they fixed the problem. I have heard tha the CSi40 is not so good on the lows as the CS400i. Perhaps that is why. Too much air flow.

Those are two seperate problems, and has nothing to do with diffraction.

The power ports are geared torwards the effeciency, bass response (extention) of the speaker. Basically allows it to hit lower, and be more effecient while keeping a smaller enclosure...

Not quite sure WHY it uses two power ports, maybe the midbasses are seperated, or maybe the port length couldnt be deep enough in the given cabinet so they used two... not sure, not a Polk engineer.

I'd still like an answer re: anti-difraction and what was changed in the CSi40 line.

I have been on this forum for years, never have I seen anyone from Polk address a question like this one. Move and get over it ;)

I don't know, but the Csi40 makes for a great center. I only switched to a Csi5 for asthetic reasons.

oops I lied, "Polk" Paul almost gave an answer here to my very same question.

LMAO!

Its probably cheaper to make without that chunk of plastic.
