After a conversation with a friend of mine, I am awful curious as to the answer to this question. There certainly are lots of car audio stores. A car speaker like Polk must have statistical data to answer that question. Anyone here know the answer?

I doubt there is any serious data. If I had to guess I would say somewhere aroudn 30% go aftermarket. Youd be suprised how many people out there think OEM systems sound good!!

Hmmm, even that sounds high to me...
I would say around 10% in IMHO.

Who cares?

Like 5% of the world population knows what the term 'soundstage' and 'accuracy' mean, much less know Bose isnt the king of anything...

And I swear to god... if I hear someone say the word 'SYSTEM' with a grin and a 'cool' head nod one more time... I'm gonna loose my mind...

Bose has sucked since it was first introduced. I wonder if the car audio bose stuff will play a frequency higher than 13Khz, their home stuff can't.

In a related thought - does HD radio presage the resurgence of AM? Given the quality of OEM sound systems if HD radio is as good as it is supposed to be most people will not be able to hear a difference in the quality of AM vs. FM HD radio. And AM has a much longer broadcast range.

Doubt it... my aunt has a Maxima with the "Premium" B*se system in it. It has dang good midbass, but the high end - even with the tweeters and treble set to max - is a bit lacking. They can't even start to compare with my polks in crispness and clarity.
