Alright I've got two polk Db 12s each in a perfectly built wedge shaped box giving each sub .88 ft^3 I think. the subs are on about a 40 degree angle firing upwards. (The box was originally built for a Ford Mustang). The subs get slightly more than 400 watts rms each. anyways, I just bought a Dodge Avenger, and with the seats down and the subs placed right against them firing diagonally upwards into the main cabin, The low frequencies (under about 45 hz I figure) just are not there. the sound drops from ridiculously clear, loud bass to almost nothing whenever it drops into the really low stuff.

Anyways, I pulled the sub box back about half a foot so the subs fired up towards the top of the trunk (where the 6x9s are located in the rear deck) and the subs sound perfect, with a very loud, even, extended response down to 20hz.

Anyways my question. Is there anyway I can solve this problem? I want my subs as far up in my trunk as possible to give me as much room as I can (for my amps). Would changing my box to a more traditional rectangular prism shape allow me to place them right up against the seats without a loss of low low frequency output?

I'm a novice with car acoustics and woofer placement so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Im not a bass lover that much so Im probably dead wrong but my guess would be build up. When you put a sub in a corner its louder and deeper as opposed to firing into free air because the wave builds off the corner walls. Since this adds a little more volume it also increases the volume in the lower end so it sounds deeper.

When you had them firing into the cabin, they were firing free until they hit the windhsield. When you moved them back some, they bounced off the rear deck and maybe around the trunk a little more and added a little more volume.

Plus, accoustics change with interiors so no matter which car you have, itll sound different in about every different spot.
