Has anyone had the opportunity to check out (first generation) High Def. DVD players crops out there? I believe Samsung has one, not quite sure which one.

I am curious, I believed this is the year that they will roll them out (both HD-DVD and Blue Ray), and I am not quite sure if any of them will have component out for HD (most are HDMI, or DVI). Otherwise, I will have to upgrade the RPTV too, when the time comes.

They had some prototypes at CES. We should see both formats this fall, although Blue-Ray may slip to next year. Blu-Ray should own HD DVD because of the extra storage capacity. I suppose it depends on cost some though. If Sony follows through on speculation that the PS3 will be a Blu-Ray player, then it's a slam dunk.

Apple Computer just announced it will support Blu-Ray. So, now in the Blu-Ray group are Dell, HP, Disney, Pioneer, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Sharp, Thomson, Yamaha, Samsung, 20th Century, Philips, Sony, TEAC, D&M Holdings (Marantz/Denon/McIntosh), LG, TDK, Imation (3M), etc....

BTW, add JVC to the Blu-Ray list. Heard it from a JVC Tech himself.

HD-DVD have backing from Warner Bros., Universal Studios, and Paramount Pictures, although these studios can also release software supporting Blu-Ray as well.
