I have a question for you. I was reading anther threat and you mentioned something about not be able to puch the driver cone back and forth, in which case, this means that something has melted (as opposed to the speaker being "blown").

Is this fixable or is it just as fatal to the speaker as it being "blown"?

After I read that threat, I tried pushing my troubled driver and, sure enough, the cone wouldn't budge at all. The driver still puts out sound, though, but it's muffled, weak and, of course, you I don't see the cone moving in and out in response to the lower frequencies.

As long as the crossover didn't get baked too, it's just a more extreme version of being blown- either way the driver will have to be replaced... Slightly blown gives you buzzes, pops and distortion; very blown gives you what you're seeing. If it's a polk and still under warranty you might be able to get customer service to replace it for free... call them up & see. Even if it's not covered, if you tell them you're a member of club polk, they'll give you free shipping.

Hey, thanks for the info.

I'm assuming that the cross-over is fine since I connected a driver from the other speaker to the wires connected to the bad speaker and it sounded fine. I know this may be a dumb question but the crossover is at the back of the speaker where the stereo wires hook up, correct? If that's the case, then it seems obvious that the problem is solely the speaker.

Anyway, yeah, I guess I'll have to buy another one.
