Make sure you try to calibrate your S series, that's a badass TV.

Right...51 inches; what do you mean by S series calibration?

You've got a 51S500 (or 700 if it has built-in tuner). It is an "S" series, from the "S" in the model name. It is one of the best CRT rear projection televsions (RPTV) ever made. ISF clalibrators love it because it is so flexible with all its settings (hundreds, mostly hidden), lots of convergence points, etc.

The only problem is, the default settings are horrible straight from the factory, if you haven't tried to change them, you're not getting the great picture that TV is capable of.

A good first step would be for you to get a basic calibration disc like: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article.asp?section_id=1&article_id=200&page_number=1 (actually, this is a must have)

Just off the cuff, turn your Constrast, Sharpness, and Brightness down. Turn off black enhancement.

Learn how to do a manual convergence.

PolkThug..

Actually it is not an "S".... it's a 51UWX20B, bought late 2002,

Anyway, thanks for the link; I have been thinking on buying something (was thinking on the Avia), also to adjust sound all the way from the DVD player.

I am pretty happy with this TV; I am using DVI-D from my Denon 1910 and improvement compared to component is amazing.

Thanks!!
