Well this is my first post. I have a 1970 Mach 1 Mustang that is just coming up on the end of a four and a half year customizing project.
The car is best described as a Pro Touring type vehicle, which I completely covered the interior in Dynomat Xtreme ....ANYWAY..
I am building my system, and currently own a "lightly used" W3 JL 10" DVC sub. I am not into massive bass ratteling my brains, but I do want the bottom end represented well.
I bought a C500.1 Polk monoblock, which will power the 10" fine, but my question is this; is the single ten going to provide a quality bottom sound, or should I step into a 12"? Dual 10"s?
If you feel I should change subs, which brands do you think have the best over quality of sound.
I will be using the Polk/Momo MMC525's both in the front and in the rear off of a C400.4.
I have the XM Alpine head unit running through an Eclipse 21010 EQ.
Again, I am shooting for pure sound quality, not 'Car-O-Bass'.
Thanks for your responses in advance.

Personally I like the Momo subs better than the W3. I think the Momos are smoother and sound deeper. I would recommend going with a single MM2124DVC (http://www.polkaudio.com/car/product.php?name=mm2124dvc) and running it off the 500.1.
That amp puts out 600 watts and the 2124DVC handles 400 per coil so that will be a good match.
Badass car by the way! ;)

That's kind of how I was leaning, thanks for the reply...anyone else have an opinion?

i kinda like mac's idea. if you want to look around a little more, i'm a huge fan of eclipse (http://www.eclipse-web.com/) subs for sound quality. other popular contenders are diamond audio's new D9 subs (http://www.diamondaudio.com/products/index.cfm?page=productList&type=28&line=1), adire audio (http://www.adireaudio.com/)'s brahmas, image dynamics' IDMAX (http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/website/products/IDMAX.html) (probably a bit more SQL oriented than you want) or the venerable w6v2 (http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/w6v2.html) from JL.
i like polk amps, i own one myself, but you may need something more powerful, depending upon the setup you choose. should you need a different brand of amp, look towards hifonics (http://www.maxxsonics.com/hifonics/index2.html) (supposed to be great for the money), usamps (http://newusamps.com/) (use Internet Explorer to open), or RF (http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/amp_index.asp) .
if i were to choose, i'd pick either eclipse or diamond, depending upon my mood that day, and i'd go with RF's Power or Type RF amps.

Neo, thanks for the suggestions. I was up very late last night doing a ton of research. After careful consideration I choose the IDQ12 v.2 D4 12". I did this based on several opinions on different audio forums regarding Image Dynamics, and also the fact that my 500.1 wouldn't drive the IDMAX to full capacity.
This seemed like a very good comprimise, and I got the sub brand new off e bay for $139.00.
Now I just have to put the JL 10" on e bay to recoup some of my money, and off I will go. I will post pics of the car and install as soon as I get it finished.

its always a good day when somebody replaces a JL sub. The IDQ is one of the best sound quality subs on the market. very good choice, very good.

What I gathered from all the reading I did last night was that the IDMAX was pretty much one of the best subs out. However I would of needed 1000 watts for the one twelve.
I am sure it would of been hella loud, with awesome SQ...I just would of been underpowering it.
I missed out on a Polk DVC 12" by seconds for 98 bucks. I am happy with my decision though.

The IDQ is a SQ sub plain and simple. Used for modest installs and systems.
The IDMAX is the balls to the walls sub. Its primarily an SQ sub but one that can handle 1500 watts so itll move more air than a wind tunnel.
Id still take a Momo over the IDQ.
Oh, and Cody.....

Image Dynamics has no slouches in their line up, they are all very good speakers. What kind of price range are we looking at?
oo, and MacLeod and Swerve...

dolfan87 - Sounds like you found quite a deal on quite a sub. I would have liked to see you get a Momo, but you certainly won't be disappointed with that. Awesome car, btw. Let us know how all this turns out; I'd love to see the pics of when you're done.
